Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Madden 23, trying to figure out the best defensive playbook, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I started by just picking random playbooks, you know, seeing what felt right.
Then I read somewhere online that the “SS Blitz 3” was the most overpowered play in the game, so I went on a hunt to find which playbooks had it. I found it in a couple of them, but I honestly couldn’t figure out how to make it work consistently. It was supposed to be amazing, but I was getting burned more often than not.

After that, I decided to take a slightly more organized approach. I did a quick search for the “Top 3 Best Defensive Playbooks” for the current gen. It seemed like most people agreed that choosing the right playbook could give you a real edge. I noticed a bunch of folks were saying that teams like the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys had really solid defenses in the game.
Trying Out Different Playbooks
- 49ers: I started with the 49ers playbook. I figured, “Hey, if they’re known for defense, their playbook must be good, right?” I spent a few games trying to get a feel for it. It had some decent plays, but nothing that really blew me away.
- Cowboys: Next up, the Cowboys. Their playbook felt a bit more aggressive, which I liked. I managed to get a few more sacks and turnovers with this one, but it still didn’t feel like the perfect fit.
- Experimenting: I also tried a few other playbooks that were mentioned online, but honestly, none of them really clicked. I was starting to think that maybe the “best” playbook is just the one you’re most comfortable with.
So, here’s where I’m at. There’s a ton of different defensive playbooks in Madden 23. Some are more aggressive, some are more about coverage, and some are just a mix of everything. I’ve messed around with a bunch of them, and I’m still not 100% sure which one is the “best.”
My Current Conclusion
I think it really comes down to personal preference and your playstyle. If you like to blitz a lot, maybe a playbook with a lot of blitz packages is good for you. If you prefer to play coverage and try to force turnovers, there are playbooks that are better for that too. What I think I’ll do is stick with the one that feels most comfortable to me.
I guess the main thing is to just keep playing and trying out different things until you find something that works for you. And if you’ve got any tips or suggestions, please leave a comment. Maybe you know something about the game that I don’t. I’m always open to learning more. I mean that’s what this is all about, right? Getting better and having fun.
