Okay, so, I’ve been playing DayZ for a while now, and one question that always pops up is about server resets. Like, how often do these things happen? I mean, I get it, resets are necessary, but it’s kind of a pain when you’ve spent hours building up your stash and then, bam, it’s all gone. So, I decided to dig into this and figure out what’s up with DayZ server resets.
First, I jumped into the official servers. From what I’ve seen, there’s no set schedule for wipes. The devs seem to do it when there’s a big update or if things are getting wonky with the game’s stability. I remember hearing some folks say that in the past, they used to do wipes every couple of years. But honestly, it feels more random than that. What I noticed is that official servers tend to restart every 3 hours or so. It is said that this makes a full day, with roughly 2 hours of daylight and 1 hour of nighttime.

- Official Servers:
- No fixed wipe schedule.
- Resets tied to major updates and stability fixes.
- Restarts roughly every 3 hours, which represents a full day-night cycle.
Then, I checked out some community servers. Now, these are a whole different story. It’s basically up to the server owners when and how often they want to wipe. Some servers might do it every month, others might go for longer. It really just depends on what the admins want to do.
- Community Servers:
- Wipe schedules vary widely.
- Entirely up to server owners.
- Frequency depends on individual server rules.
I also looked into the whole loot respawn thing. From what I gathered, loot respawning and despawning is totally separate from server restarts. It’s more about something called the Central Loot Economy. And as far as I know, a server reset just makes the trees stand back up but doesn’t affect the loot.
Another thing I found out is that when an item spawns in the game, it apparently sticks around for 45 days unless someone picks it up and moves it. I guess that’s kind of cool to know. Once, I was poking around for a clear answer on reset times, and they all reset at the same time or not, but I couldn’t find a schedule written down anywhere.
So, What’s the Deal?
Well, after all this digging, I realized that resetting a DayZ server essentially brings everything back to square one. Both the world and player progress go back to their original states. It makes sense because it can help with server performance and fix issues that pop up on servers that have been running for a long time.
In short, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to how often DayZ servers reset. It’s a mix of the devs doing their thing for official servers and server owners making their own calls for community servers. I guess the best advice is to just be prepared for anything and maybe don’t get too attached to your gear. After all, it’s DayZ, and things can change in the blink of an eye.
