I’ve been grinding in Pokémon Go again, and this time I’m focusing on my Nidoking. He’s a cool-looking dude, but I wasn’t sure what moves were best for him. So I started messing around with different combinations, testing them out in gyms and raids, you know, the usual stuff.
First, I tried out a few different fast moves. Poison Jab seemed to pack a decent punch and, being a poison-type move, it gets that same-type attack bonus (STAB). I also played around with Iron Tail, another STAB move, and Fury Cutter, which charges up pretty quick. Honestly, Poison Jab felt the most consistent. It just hits hard and fast.

- Tried out Poison Jab – pretty good damage and gets STAB.
- Experimented with Iron Tail – also gets STAB, but felt a bit slower.
- Played with Fury Cutter – charges fast but doesn’t hit as hard without STAB.
Then came the charge moves. This is where things got interesting. I knew Earth Power was a favorite, and for good reason. It’s a strong ground-type move, and with Nidoking being part ground-type, it gets that sweet STAB bonus. I also tested out Earthquake, another ground-type move that hits like a truck. But I learned that Earth Power was the better of the two for Nidoking.
After a bunch of battles, I could really see the difference. Poison Jab and Earth Power just seemed to work so well together. They cover a lot of different types of Pokémon, and the damage output is just great. I could take down gyms much faster, and Nidoking became a real beast in raids. He may not be the top dog, but man he makes for a great option when building out a team.
Conclusion
So yeah, after all that experimenting, I’m pretty confident that Poison Jab and Earth Power are the way to go for Nidoking. If you’re looking to power up your Nidoking, definitely give this combo a try. I think it’s also the go-to for PvP battles. You might even surprise a few people in the Battle League! I can’t recommend it enough!
Oh, and one more thing. Nidoking is weak against Ground, Ice, Psychic, and Water types. So, watch out for those. But he’s strong against Electric, Poison, Bug, Fairy, Fighting, and Rock types. Keep that in mind when you’re picking your battles.
I’ll continue using this best moveset for my Nidoking, and continue testing his viability for the other areas of the game. Maybe I’ll find something new in the future!
