Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another Pokemon Go experiment. Today’s subject: Is Magmortar any good in Pokemon Go? I’ve been messing around with this fiery beast, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride.
So, first things first, I caught myself a Magmar a while back. It wasn’t anything special, just your average, run-of-the-mill Magmar. But I thought, “Hey, why not evolve this bad boy into a Magmortar and see what happens?” I had a bunch of candies saved up from catching a ton of Magmars, so I went for it. Bam! Instant Magmortar.

Now, the stats on this thing looked pretty decent. I checked some stuff online, and people were saying it has a good attack. Mine had a solid 95 attack and 125 special attack, so I was pretty hyped. But here’s the thing—its defense is garbage. Like, seriously, 67 defense? That’s just sad. I knew right away that this thing was gonna be a glass cannon. It’s also mentioned that it has 83 speed stat which maybe can be used with a choice scarf, whatever that is.
I took my newly evolved Magmortar out for a spin, and boy, was it a mixed bag. In some raids, it absolutely wrecked shop. I was going up against some Grass and Ice-type Pokemon, and Magmortar just melted them. The damage output was insane! I was feeling like a total boss.
But then, disaster struck. I tried to use Magmortar against some Pokemon, and it got totally destroyed. Rock and Ground moves just ripped through it like a hot knife through butter. It was embarrassing. I mean, I knew its defense was weak, but I didn’t think it would be this bad. My Magmortar was getting one-shotted left and right. Not fun.
I did some more digging online, and apparently, there are way better Fire-type options out there. Some names I saw were Moltres, Entei, and Flareon. And even some special versions of Charizard and Typhlosion with something called “Blast Burn” were supposed to be better. Guess my Magmortar is a bit outdated. But some other people also said that even though it is not the best, if you want a Magmortar you should go for the one with the max attack stats. I tried to find the best moveset for Magmortar, and it mentioned that its lack of Overheat limits its potential, so I didn’t even bother to keep testing it.
And when I was checking for the best Pokemon to defeat a Magmortar, the list was like Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Mega Garchomp, and Mega Swampert. Those are some hard hitters for sure. If Magmortar is weak against those, that’s not good.
Here’s the bottom line: Magmortar is a high-risk, high-reward Pokemon. If you can keep it away from its weaknesses, it can dish out some serious damage. But one wrong move, and it’s toast. It’s not the best Fire-type out there anymore, but it can still be fun to use if you’re careful. And let’s be honest, it looks pretty cool.
My final verdict:
- Magmortar is a glass cannon.
- Amazing offensive stats, but terrible defense.
- There are better Fire-type options.
- It can be fun to use, but be careful.
So, that’s my experience with Magmortar in Pokemon Go. Hope you guys found it helpful. Let me know in the comments if you’ve had any luck with this Pokemon. And as always, keep on catching!
