So, I was digging around the internet the other day, trying to find a fun little project, and I stumbled upon this thing called “trainer card maker.” I’m a huge fan of Pokémon, always have been, and the idea of making my own personalized trainer card got me all excited.
First, I started poking around to see what was already out there. There are a bunch of websites where you can do this, it turns out. Some of them looked pretty basic, but others were packed with options. I really wanted to make something that felt unique, you know? Something that really captured my vibe as a Pokémon trainer.

I ended up messing with a few different tools. One of them let you add an image on top of the card, which was pretty cool for customizing things. You could put your own picture there. I thought about using a picture of my cat, but I ended up using a picture from my trip to the mountains last year. That seems more in the spirit of a Pokemon adventure.
Picking the Pokémon was the most fun part, obviously. I spent way too long going back and forth on which ones to include. Do I go with my all-time favorites? Or do I try to build a balanced team? It’s tough, man! Finally, I settled on a mix of both. I had to have my trusty starter, of course, and then I filled in the rest with some Pokémon that I thought looked cool and had some good type coverage. Don’t judge my team-building skills, okay? It’s all for fun.
- First: Pick a tool for creating a card.
- Second: Add an image to make it unique.
- Third: Pick my favorite Pokémon.
- Forth: Save the card.
After I was happy with my Pokémon choices, I played around with the other settings. You could change the background, the font, and even add little badges and stuff. I didn’t want to go too crazy, but I did add a few touches to make it feel more me. There’s even this little area to put in your trainer name. I used to go by “Ash” when I was a kid, but I figured I should probably use something a little more… grown up. I ended up using my usual online handle, which felt right.
Save the card
Once I was finally satisfied with my card, I saved it. It felt pretty awesome to have this little digital representation of myself as a Pokémon trainer. It’s silly, but it brought back a lot of good memories. I even sent it to a couple of my friends who are also into Pokémon, and they got a kick out of it. I am going to use it as my avatar on a forum from now on. They are all making their own now, too. Maybe we’ll start a little online league or something, who knows!
