Okay, let’s dive into my recent project where I was figuring out the best moveset for Virizion in Pokémon. I’ve been playing around with this Grass/Fighting-type Legendary, and it’s been quite a journey. I started off by looking into what moves Virizion can even learn. Turns out, it has access to three Fast Attacks: Quick Attack, Zen Headbutt, and Double Kick. These cover Normal and Psychic types, which is pretty standard stuff.
Now, the real fun began when I started testing these moves in battles. After a bunch of trial and error, I found that Double Kick was the way to go for the Fast Attack. It just felt right, you know? It’s quick and effective, especially when you’re up against Pokémon weak to Fighting-type moves.

Next up was figuring out the Charged Attack. This was a bit trickier. I read somewhere that Sacred Sword is an excellent move, and some folks even said it’s the only thing that makes Virizion worth considering. So, I decided to give it a shot. But here’s the catch – you need an Elite Charged TM to teach Virizion Sacred Sword. I used one of my Elite Charged TMs on it, and boy, was it worth it! Sacred Sword hits hard, and it’s boosted by Cloudy weather, which is a nice bonus.
I did experiment with other Charged Attacks too, like Leaf Blade and Close Combat. Leaf Blade is not bad. It’s Virizion’s second-best Charged Attack and gets that STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) since Virizion is also a Grass type. Close Combat is okay, but it’s totally outclassed by Sacred Sword. There’s also Stone Edge, which is pretty good in general, but it just doesn’t shine on Virizion compared to the other options.
Putting It All Together
- Fast Attack: Double Kick
- Charged Attack: Sacred Sword
So, after all that testing, my go-to moveset for Virizion became Double Kick and Sacred Sword. This combo gives you a nice balance of speed and power. I’ve been using this setup in both Ultra League and Master League, and it’s been working wonders. Virizion feels a lot more viable now, especially when you consider the type matchups.
I also noticed that Virizion was featured in a Raid Hour back in November 2021. That definitely increased its popularity. It got me thinking about grinding for candy and XL candy to power up my Virizion even more. It’s a bit of a grind, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
In the end, this whole experience taught me a lot about Virizion’s potential in competitive play. It’s not just about having the strongest Pokémon, but also about knowing how to use them effectively. This Virizion project was a blast, and I’m excited to see how it performs in future battles!
