Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my sound settings in Valorant lately, trying to get that perfect setup, you know? I started off just using the default settings, but something felt off. I couldn’t quite pinpoint where enemies were coming from, especially when things got hectic.
So, I did what any reasonable person would do – I started experimenting! First, I messed with the master volume. Cranked it up, then lowered it. No big difference in terms of actually locating people. It was more about not going deaf, haha.

Then, I started looking into this “HRTF” thing. Heard a lot of people talking about it. Apparently, it’s supposed to make the sound more, like, 3D? More realistic, I guess. So, I turned that on. And wow, what a difference! Suddenly, I could actually tell if someone was above me, below me, or off to the side. It was like a whole new world.
But it wasn’t perfect yet. I had some other surround sound stuff turned on in my Windows settings. Some enhancement thing, I don’t even remember what it was called. Anyway, I realized that this was actually messing with the HRTF. It made everything sound muddy and weird. So, I went into my Windows sound settings and turned all of that extra stuff off.
- Enable HRTF: This is the big one. Turn this on in the Valorant audio settings.
- Disable Surround Sound Enhancements: Go into your Windows sound settings and make sure any extra surround sound or virtual 7.1 stuff is turned off. These will conflict with HRTF and make your sound muddy and worse.
- Stereo Only: While you’re in the Valorant audio settings, double-check that your speaker configuration is set to stereo.
Now, I feel like I can hear everything. I can hear those sneaky footsteps a mile away. I can pinpoint where that last enemy is hiding based on the tiniest sound cue. I did some other minor changes but mainly in volume.
My Current Setup
- Master Volume: 70
- Sound Effects Volume: 100
- Voice-Over Volume: 50
- Video Player Volume: 50
- All Music Volumes: 30
- Voice Chat Volumes: 100
- Voice Chat: Auto
- Voice Activation Mode: Push to Talk
- Enable HRTF: On
It has seriously improved my gameplay. My friends always say that I have a super-hearing power in Valorant now. I’m telling you, it’s all about that HRTF and turning off those other sound “enhancements.” Give it a try, and let me know what you think! It might just change your game, too.
