So, the other day I got this itch to try and make my own Marvel Snap cards. You know, just for fun, see if I could come up with something cool. I’ve seen some fan-made cards online, and I thought, “Hey, I could probably do that!”
Getting Started
First thing I did was just brainstorm. I sat down with a notebook and started jotting down ideas. What kind of abilities would be interesting? What characters haven’t been used yet? I was thinking about maybe some lesser-known heroes or villains, or even just putting a new spin on existing characters.

I spent a good chunk of time just scribbling down random thoughts. Power levels, energy costs, abilities that would mess with locations or other cards… I filled up a few pages, no joke.
The Messy Middle Part
After the initial brain dump, I started trying to organize my ideas. I picked out a few that I thought had potential and started fleshing them out. This is where it got tricky. Trying to balance the card’s power with its cost and ability… man, it’s harder than it looks!
I kept tweaking things. “Okay, maybe this ability is too strong, let’s lower the power.” Or, “This cost is too high, nobody would play this card.” Back and forth, back and forth. I even started making little mock-ups on index cards, just to get a visual feel for them.
- Started with basic stats. What’s the Power? What’s the Energy cost?
- Figured out the core ability. What makes this card unique?
- Tweaked, tweaked, tweaked. Balanced things out. Does it feel right?
Making them Presentable
Once I had a few cards that I felt pretty good about, I decided to make them look more presentable. I mean, my scribbled index cards weren’t exactly going to win any awards, I needed the art.
So that’s what I did. I made them look some what presentable.
The Final Result (For Now!)
It’s definitely a work in progress, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I’ve got a handful of cards that I think are actually kind of interesting. It’s a fun little project, and it definitely gave me a new appreciation for the actual game designers. It’s tough work!
I might keep tinkering with these, or maybe even try making some more. Who knows, maybe I’ll even “print” them out and try playing a game with them. We’ll see!
