Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into Pokemon Go lately, trying to optimize my teams, and I got stuck on this one question: Bellossom or Vileplume? They’re both Grass/Poison types, so I figured I’d share my little experiment and what I found.
The Start of My Confusion
I started out pretty casual, just catching what I could. But then I got into battling, and that’s where things got serious. I had a decent Gloom, and I was ready to evolve it. But then, boom! I realized I could go two different ways: Vileplume or Bellossom. I was totally stumped.

Digging for Clues
First, I looked at their stats, I checked out a few websites and compared, I noticed the attack and defense, tried see which one was tougher. Honestly, they seemed pretty close on paper. It was like, “Okay, this one’s a little better at attacking, this one’s slightly better at defending…” Nothing really jumped out at me.
Putting Them to the Test
So, I thought, “Screw it, let’s do this live!” I had enough candies to evolve two Glooms, so I did just that. One became a Vileplume, the other a Bellossom. Then came the fun part: battling!
- Gym Battles: I started throwing them at gyms. I’d use Vileplume against one, Bellossom against another, trying to keep the matchups similar.
- Trainer Battles: I bugged my friends to battle me. “Hey, wanna test out my new Pokemon?” (They probably got annoyed, but hey, science!)
- Taking Notes: After each battle, I’d jot down how they did. How quickly did they faint? How much damage did they deal? It wasn’t super scientific, but it gave me a feel for things.
My (Very Unscientific) Results
After a bunch of battles, here’s what I think I figured out. It is important to consider:
- Vileplume seemed to hit a little harder, especially with those Poison-type moves.
- Bellossom, I don’t know, it just felt a bit sturdier. It seemed to last longer in fights, even if it wasn’t doing as much damage per hit.
The Final Verdict
Honestly, I think it depends on what and how you want your Pokemon. If you want something that can dish out good damage, I’d maybe lean towards Vileplume. But if you want something that can take a few hits and stick around, Bellossom might be your pick.
I’m still kind of on the fence. I’m using both of them right now, depending on the situation. My best advice is to get both, try it, and see which one fits your style better!
