OK, so, I’ve been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, like, a ton, and December’s here. That means new bugs, right? So I figured I’d share my little bug-catching adventures with y’all.
First off, I made sure my net was ready. Gotta have a trusty net. Then I started my hunt. I knew some bugs would be leaving soon, so I prioritized those. I ran around my island, checking every tree and flower.

I found my first bug pretty quick, it was a Centipede! I saw it crawling on a rock, and whoosh, got it in my net. I checked my little in-game encyclopedia, and it told me they were out from 4 PM to 11 PM. Good to know!
Next up, I spotted a Pill Bug, It was chilling on a tree stump. These guys are around from 11 PM to 4 PM, so I made a mental note to keep an eye out for them later at night, too.
- Centipede: Sneaky little things that crawl on rocks! Found them from 4 PM to 11 PM.
- Pill Bug: These guys love tree stumps. Catch them between 11 PM and 4 PM.
- Dung Beetle: Rolling around snowballs, available all day.
- Damselfly: Flying around all day long.
My biggest score was finding a Dung Beetle. I know, it sounds weird, but they’re pretty rare! I saw it rolling a snowball. Caught it! Those things are out all day, so that was lucky.
Getting Tricky
Some bugs were harder to find. Like the Damselfly, it was just flying around randomly, so I had to chase it a bit. But I finally nabbed one. They’re around all day too, so that wasn’t too bad. There were some bugs that only appear in specific situations, such as the Flea, which will randomly appear on a villager’s head! After catching the flea, the villagers will thank you for freeing them from the pest. I think that I will keep an eye on this.
There are so many other bugs! I am going to have a try to catch them later. After a good few hours of hunting, I had a decent collection. I donated some to the museum, sold some for bells, and kept a few just because they looked cool. It’s a good way to make some extra bells in the game. You can sell them to Timmy and Tommy in Nook’s Cranny.
And that’s pretty much it! Just wanted to share my little bug-catching spree. It’s actually pretty fun once you get into it. Maybe I’ll make another post about the fish I catch next month. See ya!
