Alright, so yesterday was a bit of a mess. I finally got my hands on the new Dawntrail expansion. I was hyped. I mean, who wasn’t? But when I fired it up, guess what I saw? Nothing. Nada. Just a big, fat, black screen.
First thing I did, like any reasonable person, was to panic a little. Then, I started clicking around like a madman, hoping that would somehow magically fix things. It didn’t. The screen stayed black, mocking me with its emptiness.

My next move was to check my setup. I made sure my graphics card drivers were up to date, which, of course, they were, because I’m not a total noob. I’ve got a Gigabyte 2060, and I’m running the game at 1440p, so it’s not like my rig can’t handle it. I even double-checked that my display port cable was plugged into the right place, which it was.
So, what else could it be? I started thinking, maybe the game files got messed up during the download? It happens. So, I launched the game launcher and found the “repair” option. Clicked it, waited for what felt like an eternity, and… still nothing. Black screen again.
- Tried running the game – black screen.
- Updated drivers – still black screen.
- Repaired game files – you guessed it, black screen.
Here’s a breakdown of my not-so-fun adventure:
Then I remembered something I saw online about limiting the frame rate. Apparently, some folks were having issues with the game pushing their GPUs too hard. My monitor runs at 165Hz, so I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I capped the FPS at 60, and wouldn’t you know it? I had to enter my Dawntrail key in my Mog Station account. The game loaded! Finally, I’m in! What a day.
I think it is a very useful day. I will share it to help my friends.
