Alright, let’s talk about how I got my Magmortar to be an absolute beast in battles. It took some trial and error, but I finally figured out the best moveset for this fiery monster.
First, I started with a basic Magmortar I caught. It had some decent moves, but nothing special. I battled a bit, leveled it up, and started experimenting. Initially, I went with Fire Blast because, duh, it’s a powerful Fire-type move. But the accuracy was kind of a letdown sometimes. It missed at crucial moments, and that was frustrating.

- Flamethrower – I swapped out Fire Blast for this. More reliable, you know? It hits almost every time, and the damage is still pretty solid.
Next, I wanted some coverage. I slapped on Thunderbolt to deal with those pesky Water-types that kept giving my Magmortar trouble. That was a good move, I must say. Suddenly, I wasn’t getting walled by every Water Pokemon out there.
- Focus Blast – This one was a bit of a gamble. Low accuracy, but the power is insane. It took down a few Rock and Steel-types that thought they were safe. It’s a high-risk, high-reward kind of deal.
Then I tried out a few other moves, like Psychic and Solar Beam, but they didn’t feel right. Psychic didn’t hit hard enough, and Solar Beam needed that Sunny Day setup, which was too slow for my liking. In the end, I settled on a fourth move that really rounded out the set.
- Hidden Power (Grass) – Yeah, this was a bit tricky to get. I had to do some breeding and hoping for the right IVs. But once I got a Magmortar with Hidden Power Grass, it was a game-changer. It covered my weakness to Ground and Rock, which was super useful.
My final moveset
So, after all that experimenting, here’s what I ended up with: Flamethrower for reliable damage, Thunderbolt for Water-types, Focus Blast for the big hits, and Hidden Power (Grass) for coverage. This setup made my Magmortar a force to be reckoned with. It could handle a wide range of opponents and consistently win battles. It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth the effort.
I even tried to use different items. At first, I gave my Magmortar a Choice Specs to boost its special attack, but then it got locked into one move, which wasn’t ideal in some situations. I switched to a Life Orb, which gave a smaller boost but allowed me to use different moves. That felt much better, more flexible.
Man, it took a lot of battling, breeding, and experimenting to get to this point. But seeing my Magmortar blast through opponents with this moveset? Totally worth it. It’s become one of my go-to Pokemon in battles now. You wouldn’t believe how many people I’ve surprised with this setup. They just don’t see it coming! Hope this helps anyone trying to build their own awesome Magmortar.
