Okay, here is a blog post about my experience with creating Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in NBA 2K24:
Man, I gotta tell you about this little project I’ve been messing with. I’m a huge NBA 2K fan, and this year I decided I wanted to really nail down my favorite player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, in the game. So, I started messing around to create his character.

First thing I did was hop into the player creation mode. It’s pretty wild how much detail you can get into with this stuff. I spent a good chunk of time just scrolling through all the different options, you know, getting a feel for what I could tweak and change.
Next, I started with the basics – his height, weight, wingspan, all that jazz. I made sure to look up his actual measurements online cause I wanted to be accurate. Then came the fun part – sculpting his face. I went through all the preset heads, trying to find one that looked kinda like him. Then, I messed with the individual features. I think I spent like an hour just on his nose, trying to get that perfect slope. It’s crazy how many sliders there are for each feature.
- Adjusted his jawline, made it a bit sharper.
- Tweaked his eyes, made ’em a little wider.
- Mess around with his hair. I had to go with his signature longer hair look.
After I was finally happy with his face, I moved onto his attributes. This was a whole other beast. I wanted to make sure he played like the real Shai, you know? So, I boosted his ball-handling, his mid-range shooting, and his finishing. I also made sure his defense was solid, cause the dude’s a two-way player.
The final step was picking out his animations. This is what really brings a player to life in the game. I chose his dribble moves, his jump shot, his layup packages. I watched a bunch of his highlights online to get a feel for his style and tried to match it as best as I could. I tried some signature style, but it is not perfect.
It took me a few days of on-and-off tinkering, but I finally got him to a place where I was happy. He looked like Shai, he played like Shai, and it was awesome. Now, every time I play with the Thunder, it feels like I’m actually controlling the real deal. It’s pretty darn satisfying, I gotta say. Hope this was helpful for anyone else trying to recreate their favorite players in NBA 2K24!
