Alright, so, I wanted to get a handle on which mid laners are crushing it in League of Legends right now. I mean, who doesn’t want to climb the ladder, right?
So, first, I just jumped into a bunch of games. I tried a mix of popular mid laners and some that I just personally vibe with. I played, like, a ton of games, trying to get a feel for who felt strong in the current meta and who felt like a struggle bus.
While playing, I started keeping track of things. Not in a super strict way, mind you, just like, “Oh, this champ feels really good against assassins,” or “Man, this champ gets countered hard by long-range mages.”
After that I took a look around the internet, you know, just to see what other folks were saying. There are a bunch of sites that do tier lists based on all sorts of data.
I paid attention to what these sites were using to rank the champions, like win rates, pick rates, and ban rates. I figure, if a champion is getting picked or banned a lot, there’s probably a good reason for it. They are likely too strong, or too annoying to deal with, you know what I mean? And if they have a good win rate despite that, they’re probably pretty good.
The algorithm these sites used seemed pretty legit. They take a bunch of data and spit out a ranking. The top-tier champs get an “S” rating, and then it goes down from there.
Then, I kind of mashed together my own experiences with what I saw online. I started to see some patterns. Certain champs that I thought were strong were also showing up high on these lists. And some of the ones I struggled with were ranked lower.
So, after playing a bunch of games, reading through those data-driven tier lists, and just thinking about it all, I started to build my own tier list. I didn’t use any fancy tools or anything, just my trusty old notebook.
I tried to think about things like, “How easy is this champ to play?”, “How well do they do against different types of champions?”, and “How much impact can they have on the game?”
It was a pretty fun experiment! It definitely gave me a better idea of who’s strong in the mid lane right now. I feel like my games have been going a bit better since I started thinking about this stuff more seriously.
My personal top picks right now would probably be:
- Ahri – She’s just so versatile and can make plays happen.
- Sylas – Stealing ults is just too much fun, and he can be a real menace.
- Syndra – Her burst damage is insane, and she can control teamfights like a boss.
But, you know, this is just my opinion. Everyone has their own playstyle and preferences. The best way to find out what works for you is to just get out there and play!
