Okay, so, I’ve been grinding hard on Pokémon GO lately, and I really wanted to get my hands on a Shadow Gyarados. I mean, who wouldn’t? It’s such a beast! Here’s how I finally managed to snag one.
First off, I had to track down Team GO Rocket grunts. It’s not that hard, they are all over the place, but it takes time. You know, the usual deal – spin some PokéStops, find those guys with their weird balloons, or just hanging around invaded stops. Once I found them, I had to battle them to get a chance at encountering a Shadow Pokémon.

The battles themselves? Not too shabby. I’ve got a pretty solid team, so I was able to take them down without too much trouble. But let me tell you, those Shadow Pokémon hit hard! I had to use a lot of potions and revives, but it’s all part of the game, right? Anyway, after a bunch of battles, I finally started encountering Shadow Magikarps. Yeah, you heard that right, Magikarp! Because, you know, Gyarados evolves from Magikarp.
- Find and Battle Team GO Rocket: This was the first step. I located and battled Team GO Rocket grunts at invaded PokéStops or in their balloons.
- Encounter Shadow Magikarp: After winning battles, I had a chance to catch a Shadow Magikarp.
- Catch Shadow Magikarp: This was important. I stocked up on Poké Balls and caught as many Shadow Magikarps as I could.
- Collect Candies: To evolve Magikarp into Gyarados, you need a whopping 400 Magikarp candies! I caught every Magikarp I could.
- Evolve Shadow Magikarp: Finally, with enough candies, I evolved my strongest Shadow Magikarp into a Shadow Gyarados.
I kept catching those Shadow Magikarps. I mean, I had to, because evolving a Magikarp into a Gyarados takes a crazy amount of candies – 400 to be exact! I used Pinap Berries to double the candy rewards. It was a grind, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I had enough candies. I picked the best Shadow Magikarp I had, based on its IVs and all that. Then, with a tap of the screen, I evolved it into a Shadow Gyarados! It felt so good to see that evolution animation.
Powering Up
But I didn’t stop there. I wanted my Shadow Gyarados to be a real powerhouse. I knew it was strong, especially against those Electric-type moves, which Gyarados is normally weak to. So, I started powering it up, using up all the Stardust and candies I had saved. I also used some TMs to get the best moveset: Waterfall and Hydro Pump. Man, this thing is a beast in raids now! It totally dominates, especially when it’s got a type advantage. And it’s a great choice for most players, just like I read online. Seeing it at the top of the Water-type DPS charts is super satisfying.
So, yeah, that’s my story of how I got my Shadow Gyarados. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. Now I’ve got one of the strongest Water-type Pokémon in the game. If you’re trying to get one too, just keep at it. It’s a grind, but trust me, the payoff is huge! And remember, you can find a lot of guides online, just search for “Pokebattler Team GO Rocket counters guide for Shadow Gyarados”. Happy hunting!
