Okay, so, I’ve been playing a ton of Pokemon Go lately, and I really wanted to beef up my Torterra. It’s a beast, you know? But I wasn’t really sure about the best moves to give it.
First off, I started looking around to figure out what moves Torterra even has. Turns out, it can learn two Fast Attacks: Bite and Razor Leaf. Bite is a Dark-type move, and Razor Leaf is a Grass-type. And if you use Razor Leaf, you get that sweet Same-Type-Attack-Bonus, or STAB for short. That’s like extra damage, which is always good, right?

So, I decided to experiment a bit. I started by trying out Bite. It’s okay, but it just didn’t feel like it was doing enough damage. Then I switched to Razor Leaf. Now we’re talking! With that STAB, it was hitting way harder. I was taking down gyms way faster than before.
Now, for the Charged Attacks, things got a little trickier. The best one, apparently, is Frenzy Plant. The catch? You need an Elite TM to get it, which are kind of hard to come by. I didn’t have one of those lying around, so I had to figure out something else. I tried a bunch of different ones. Finally, I settled on Solar Beam. It takes a while to charge up, but man, when it hits, it hits hard.
So, my Torterra was doing pretty good with Razor Leaf and Solar Beam. I did some battles and it was holding its own. But I wanted to see if I could make it even better, so I went back to my search. After reading a ton of comments I found that some people said that Razor Leaf and Frenzy Plant is the best combination.
Luckily, I found out that I actually did have an Elite Charged TM! I don’t know when I got it, but I was so stoked. So, I used it to teach Torterra Frenzy Plant. This was a game-changer. This move is just insane. It charges up super fast, and it does a ton of damage. Like, a lot. This one was definitely the best one of the two.
My Final Build
- Fast Attack: Razor Leaf
- Charged Attack: Frenzy Plant
With this combo, my Torterra became a total monster. I’m talking about 13.97 DPS (damage per second) and 269.2 TDO (total damage output). I was taking down pretty much anything that was thrown at me, especially when it’s sunny, since that boosts both Razor Leaf and Frenzy Plant.
One time, I was facing a Flying-type Pokemon. Normally, that would be a problem for Torterra, since it’s weak to Flying. But I had a trick up my sleeve. I also have a Luxray, which is an Electric type, and that’s super effective against Flying. So I switched to Luxray, took out the Flying-type, then switched back to Torterra to finish the job. Teamwork makes the dream work, right?
I also tried this strategy with Electivire and Magnezone. Those two are also Electric-type, and they worked great as well. Just having one of those guys in your party to deal with Torterra’s weakness to Flying types makes a huge difference.
Anyway, that’s my Torterra journey. It took a bit of experimenting, but now I have a super powerful Pokemon that’s ready for anything. If you’re building a Torterra, definitely try out Razor Leaf and Frenzy Plant. You won’t regret it!
