Alright, so the other day, I was playing Pokemon Go, and I caught a bunch of Beldum. I was super stoked because I wanted to get a strong Metagross. You know, the steel and psychic type, pretty cool Pokemon, right?
I managed to evolve one of my Beldum all the way up. First into Metang, and then finally, bam! I got my Metagross. But then I was like, “Wait, which moves should this bad boy have?” I did some digging because, well, I wanted the best possible Metagross, naturally.

- First off, I looked at some battles to get an idea.
- There was this one battle, I saw a Primal Groudon, it was using Mud Shot and Precipice Blades. Man, that thing was a beast. It had a DPS of 33.06, a TDO of 961.6, and it won the fight in like, 124 seconds. That got me thinking about strong moves.
Then, I found some info specifically about Metagross. There are best movesets for attacking and defending. It’s important to know because you need the right moves, you know? You also gotta consider the matchups.
Best Moves for Attacking
For attacking, it seemed like the way to go was Bullet Punch for the fast move and Meteor Mash for the charged move. Bullet Punch is a steel-type move, and Meteor Mash is also steel-type, so you get that sweet STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus). I tried it out, and man, my Metagross was hitting like a truck!
Best Moves for Defending
For defending, I found that Zen Headbutt is a good choice for the fast move because it’s psychic-type, and it gives you some coverage. I paired it with Meteor Mash again for that powerful charged move. It seemed to work pretty well, my Metagross held its own in a few gym battles.
I played around with these movesets in a bunch of battles. It was a blast! I learned a lot about type matchups and which Pokemon Metagross struggles against. You gotta watch out for those ground and fire types.
So yeah, that’s my little adventure with Metagross in Pokemon Go. I’m still learning, but I’m pretty happy with my Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash combo. It’s a solid Pokemon, and with the right moves, it can really shine. Keep on catching them all, fellow trainers!
