Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Machamp in Pokemon GO lately, and I gotta say, this guy is a beast in battles! I wanted to figure out the absolute best moveset for him, so I did a little digging and a lot of battling. Here’s what I found out:
First off, Machamp is a Fighting-type, which means he’s weak against Psychic, Flying, and Fairy-type moves. Keep that in mind when you’re picking your battles. I learned that the hard way when I went up against a Mewtwo… yeah, not my brightest moment.

Now, for the fast moves, Machamp has three options: Bullet Punch, Counter, and Karate Chop. I tried them all out, and let me tell you, Counter is the way to go. It just deals way more damage per second than the others. I was shredding through opponents once I got that down.
Charged Moves Get Tricky
Here’s where things got a little more interesting. Machamp has a few charged moves to choose from. I spent a good chunk of time (and a few TMs) experimenting. Cross Chop is super quick, which is great for baiting shields. But if you’re like me and don’t wanna waste a bunch of TMs, Rock Slide is a decent alternative. It’s a bit slower than Cross Chop but still faster than Dynamic Punch.
- Fast Move: Counter (no question about it)
- Charged Move: Cross Chop (if you have TMs to spare) or Rock Slide (if you’re on a budget)
I also found out that some folks recommend Dynamic Punch, but honestly, I found it to be too slow. By the time I charged it up, I was usually halfway to fainting. So, I’d stick with Cross Chop or Rock Slide.
Putting It to the Test
After settling on Counter and Cross Chop, I took my Machamp out for a spin. I battled in raids, gyms, and against other trainers. And let me tell you, this moveset is a winner! I was taking down those tanky Normal-types like Blissey and Snorlax with ease. Even some Steel and Rock-types didn’t stand a chance. Of course, I made sure to dodge those Psychic, Flying, and Fairy attacks. I’m not making that mistake again!
I also tried using some other Pokemon to back up Machamp. Mewtwo, Alakazam, and Espeon are great for taking down those pesky Psychic-types that Machamp struggles against. Lugia and Moltres are good options too if you don’t have those other guys. But seriously, who doesn’t have an Espeon by now?
So, there you have it! That’s my take on the best Machamp moveset in Pokemon GO. It took some trial and error, but I’m pretty happy with the results. Now, I’m off to go find some more Team GO Rocket grunts to pummel. Wish me luck!
