Okay, so, I’ve been grinding on NBA 2K24 lately, and let me tell you, getting those driving layups down has been a journey. I started off pretty rough, missing easy layups, getting blocked, the whole nine yards. It was frustrating, to say the least.
First thing I did was to check out the requirements for driving layups. I mean, you gotta know the rules before you can break ’em, right? Turns out, there’s a whole bunch of them. I started practicing the hop step layup, because that seemed like a good starting point. I tried to do it while driving to the basket.

Then, I was like, “How do I get more contact layups?” I did some digging around and found out that you need to turn on layup timing but not the layup meter. Makes sense. And the Fearless Finisher badge is apparently the way to go. I’ve been rocking it on silver, and it’s made a difference. I do see some improvements there.
Here are some things I’ve been trying to focus on:
- Release timing: I used to just chuck the ball up there, hoping for the best. Now, I’m trying to release it as late as possible and as close to the basket as I can.
- Positioning: This one’s a work in progress, but I’m trying to get better at using my body to shield the ball from defenders.
It’s still a grind, but I’m starting to see some progress. I’m making more layups than I used to, and I’m getting better at drawing fouls. I’m not going to say I’m a driving layup god now or anything, but I’m definitely improving.
What I learned
What did I learn? Well, first off, don’t expect to be an expert overnight. Secondly, don’t be afraid to experiment. Try different things, see what works for you. And lastly, don’t give up! Keep practicing, and eventually, you’ll get there.
Anyway, that’s my driving layup journey in NBA 2K24 so far. Hope this was helpful to some of you guys out there. Keep on balling!
