Okay, so I’ve been wanting to play Pokemon Red and Blue online with my friends for a while now, just like in the good old days. I did a bit of digging and figured out a way to make it happen, and let me tell you, it’s been a blast from the past!
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a way to connect with my buddies. It turns out these games, Pokemon Red and Blue, can communicate with each other using something called a “Game Link Cable.” Since we’re not exactly sitting next to each other, I had to think of a workaround. Luckily I found out that the newer Virtual Console versions of these games have fixed the issue and offer wireless trading and multiplayer battles.

- So, I grabbed my old Game Boy Advance (thank goodness I kept it!) and dusted it off.
- Then, I managed to get my hands on a digital copy of both Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. If you already own them on the Virtual Console, you’re good to go.
Setting Up the Connection
Now, this is where it gets interesting. The setup wasn’t too complicated, but it did require a few steps.
- I made sure both my friend and I had the games ready to go on our 3DS or whatever you are using.
- We both went to a Pokemon Center in the game. Inside, you gotta talk to the receptionist on the right side of the counter.
- She asked if I wanted to trade or battle, and that’s when the connection starts. You gotta say “yes” when she asks about trading or battling with a friend.
Trading and Battling
Once we were connected, it was like we were kids again!
- Trading: We could swap Pokemon just like we used to. I finally got that one Pokemon I was missing from my Pokedex by trading with my friend. And he could finally have that monster he always wanted from my save file!
- Battling: This was the real highlight. We put our teams to the test, and the battles were intense. It’s important to note that when you’re battling a friend, your Pokemon don’t gain any experience, and they get fully healed after each battle. So, make sure you heal your team before you head into the Cable Club.
Wrap Up
Honestly, reliving these Pokemon Red and Blue moments online with my friends has been awesome. It’s a great way to reconnect with old games and share some good times. If you’re a Pokemon fan, I highly recommend giving this a try. It’s a bit of a process to get it set up, but totally worth it for the nostalgia and fun!
Oh, and one more thing! You can’t catch every Pokemon in just Red or just Blue. To get them all, you HAVE to trade. So find a buddy and start swapping!
Hope this helps anyone who wants to get back into the classic Pokemon games and play with their friends!
