Today, I wanna talk about something that’s been on my mind lately, I am playing the new ADC, the little dragon, Smolder, I found him quite a lot of fun. But you know, sometimes it feels like you’re missing that extra oomph in the bot lane, right? So I did some digging and experimenting to find the best support buddies for our fiery friend.
First off, I tried pairing him with the usual suspects, you know, the ones everyone says are good. I played a few games with Rakan, and it was pretty decent. Rakan’s pretty good at jumping in and out, which gives Smolder some breathing room.

- Rakan: Decent, but not mind-blowing.
Then, I thought, “Why not try someone a bit tankier?” So, I gave Alistar a go. He’s great at knocking enemies up and away, which is supposed to be good for keeping Smolder safe. It worked okay, but I felt like we weren’t really killing it in the lane.
- Alistar: Good for defense, but not much else.
After that, I experimented with some mage supports. I played a few rounds with Sona and Bard. Sona’s heals are nice, but she’s squishy, and Bard, well, he’s fun but a bit too random for my taste. I want something reliable, not some weird portal surprises.
- Sona: Too squishy, not enough impact.
- Bard: Too unpredictable for consistent synergy.
Digging Deeper into the Data
Feeling a bit lost, I checked out some of those stat sites like Lolalytics to see what the numbers said. A lot of people seem to like Janna, Braum, and Renata with Smolder. They’re all about that disengage, which makes sense.
- Janna: Good at shielding and speeding Smolder up.
- Braum: Super tanky and can block a lot of damage.
- Renata: Her ultimate can turn fights around, but it’s a bit tricky to use.
My Own Experiments
But you know me, I like to get my hands dirty. So I started trying out some other champs. I found that Maokai and Thresh are actually pretty awesome with Smolder. They can lock down enemies, so Smolder can just blast away without worrying too much.
- Maokai: Roots for days, makes it easy for Smolder to hit his shots.
- Thresh: Hooks and flays, perfect for setting up kills or peeling.
Community Wisdom
Then, I stumbled upon some comments online. Some folks were saying that tanky supports, what they call “Wardens,” are the way to go. Champions like Taric and Tahm Kench were mentioned. I gave them a shot, and they weren’t wrong. These guys can really take a beating and keep Smolder safe.
- Taric: Super tough, heals, and has a stun.
- Tahm Kench: Can eat Smolder to save him or eat enemies to disable them.
My Go-To Picks
After all that testing, I’ve settled on a few favorites. When I’m playing with Smolder, I really like having a Maokai or Thresh by my side. If I want something a bit more on the defensive side, Braum is my man. And for a bit of spice, I’ll pick Taric or Tahm Kench.
So there you have it, my journey to finding the best duos for Smolder. It’s been a wild ride, but I’ve learned a lot. Remember, the best support for Smolder is someone who can either lock down enemies so he can deal damage or keep him safe so he can scale up. Try out these pairings and see what works best for you. Happy gaming, everyone!
