Okay, so, I’ve been grinding away on Pokémon GO again lately, and you know what’s been on my mind? Shiny Mega Charizard. I mean, who doesn’t want that awesome black dragon in their collection, right? So I set out on a mission to finally snag one. It’s not as simple as just catching a Charmander and evolving it, you know. You gotta do these Mega Raids, and it’s a whole thing.
First off, I started hitting up every Mega Charizard raid I could find. I joined some using remote raid passes, and some I actually went out to, if you can believe it. Gotta get that exercise in, I guess. And let me tell you, it was a bit of a struggle at first. Those Mega Charizards, they don’t mess around. They hit hard. But I have a solid team that is good for these battles, so that helps, I did not have any good counters initially, and lost quite a few times.

I kept at it, raiding whenever I got the chance. I was mainly going for the Mega Charizard X, because, you know, it’s a Dragon-type, and that’s just cooler. But I wouldn’t have said no to a shiny Mega Charizard Y either. Each time I won, I’d get some Mega Energy, which is super important. I knew from the beginning that I’d need a lot of this stuff to actually Mega Evolve my own Charizard, which I also do not have. The energy needed was pretty significant, especially since it was my first time Mega Evolving this particular Pokémon.
- Raid, raid, raid: That was my life for a while. I spent a lot of time looking for raids, doing the remote thing, and running around town.
- Check the stats: I got a tip from a friend to look at the Pokémons’ stats. Apparently, a lower attack stat is better for Great League. I downloaded an IV checking app to help with this.
- Mega Evolve: After a bunch of raids, I finally had enough Mega Energy to evolve my Charizard. I chose to go for Mega Charizard X first.
After I did my first few raids, I got my first shiny Charmander! I was so happy, and since I had been collecting mega energy I evolved that little guy into a Mega Charizard X, and boom, shiny Mega Charizard X acquired. Feels good, man. Feels real good. It wasn’t easy, and it took a lot of time and effort, and quite a few raid passes, but it was totally worth it. This game, sometimes, man. It really knows how to keep you hooked. I’m already thinking about what shiny I should try to get next. Maybe a Mega Rayquaza? We’ll see.
Important Note
When I got my first shiny, it was a Charmander that I then evolved, it was not a Charizard. Also Mega Charizard Y is a strong Pokémon in Pokémon Go, especially as a Fire-type attacker. It has a high potential CP, making it a great choice for battles. Remember, after you Mega Evolve a Charizard once, the Mega Energy cost for future evolutions goes down. So, it gets a little easier after that first big hurdle.
