Alright, so today I’m gonna talk about my experience with building the best moveset for Gallade. I’ve been playing around with this Pokémon for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey.
First off, I started looking into what makes Gallade tick. You know, what’s its deal? It’s a Psychic/Fighting-type, which is pretty cool, but it also means it’s got some weaknesses. I spent some time reading up on different guides and what other players are doing with their Gallades. It’s a mixed bag, but it gave me a good starting point.

Then I jumped into the game and started experimenting. I tried out a bunch of different movesets, but it felt like something was always missing. I mean, Gallade’s got a decent Attack stat, so I figured I should focus on that. I slapped on Swords Dance, thinking that’d be a game-changer, and it kinda was. Boosting that Attack stat made a noticeable difference.
Experimenting with Moves
I also messed around with a few different attack moves. Close Combat is a no-brainer, right? It’s super powerful. And I figured Zen Headbutt would be good for that STAB (Same-type attack bonus). But it wasn’t enough.
- Close Combat: Hits like a truck, but lowers my defenses. Risky, but worth it sometimes.
- Zen Headbutt: Decent damage and that sweet STAB, but I needed more.
- Swords Dance: This one is great. Get a couple of these off and Gallade becomes a beast.
After a bunch of battles, I started to see what was working and what wasn’t. I realized I needed something to deal with those pesky Pokémon that resist Fighting-type moves. I tried Night Slash for a while, and it was okay. But then I stumbled upon Ice Punch, and let me tell you, that was a game-changer. It helped me deal with Flying-types and even some Ground-types like Bertha’s team who were giving me trouble.
The Final Touch
The last piece of the puzzle was figuring out the ability. I was torn between Steadfast and a few others. I played a bunch of matches with each one, trying to see what felt best. It’s a tough call. But finally I realized that if I’m using Gallade as a lead, Steadfast’s a solid choice. It messes with opponents who rely on moves like Fake Out, which can be a real pain.
So, after all that trial and error, I think I’ve finally cracked the code. My Gallade’s got Swords Dance to boost its Attack, Close Combat and Zen Headbutt for STAB, and Ice Punch to cover its weaknesses. With Steadfast as its ability. It’s not perfect, but it’s been working pretty well for me. I even had a blast using this build with Mega Gallade, really boosted its Attack stat and was tough for teams that are defensive-minded to deal with, Knock Off was also a good option. I also heard that Gallade is pretty fragile because it focuses on offense, I guess that’s why it’s not as popular as other Pokemons.
Honestly, building this moveset was a lot of fun. It took some time, but it was worth it. And hey, if you’re struggling with your Gallade, maybe give this setup a try. It might just work for you too! And if you want to switch into a dark type, maybe consider another ability besides Steadfast.
