Alright, so I’ve been diving deep into the world of Pokémon GO lately, and I got my hands on a Shadow Alakazam. I was super stoked because, you know, Shadow Pokémon are supposed to be stronger, right? But I wasn’t totally sure if it was worth the investment, so I decided to do a little experiment.
Getting Started: Catching and Purifying
First things first, I needed to actually catch the thing. I spent a few days battling Team GO Rocket grunts, hoping to encounter an Abra. Finally, after a bunch of battles, I found one! I caught it, and it had some pretty decent stats. Nothing amazing, but good enough to work with.

Powering Up and Comparing
- The Grind: I started powering up my Shadow Alakazam. This took a ton of Stardust and Candy. Seriously, it felt like I was feeding this thing an endless supply of resources.
- Side-by-Side: I also had a regular Alakazam that I had caught a while back. I powered that one up as well, so I could compare them at similar levels.
- The Stats: Okay, so here’s where things get interesting. The Shadow Alakazam definitely had a higher attack stat. It hit harder, no doubt about it. But, it also fainted way faster. Its defense was noticeably lower.
Battle Testing
I took both Alakazams into some raids and Gym battles. I wanted to see how they performed in real-world situations. Here’s what I observed:
- Raid Damage: My Shadow Alakazam was a beast in raids. Its damage output was insane. I’m use lots of potions and revives to bring it to battle again.
It was helping me take down raid bosses much faster than my regular Alakazam.
- Gym Battles: Gym battles were a bit more mixed. Against weaker opponents, the Shadow Alakazam crushed them quickly. But against tougher Pokémon, it often fainted before it could do much damage. It was a glass cannon, for sure.
The Verdict
So, is Shadow Alakazam good? After all my testing, I’d say it’s a yes, but with a caveat. It’s amazing for dealing damage, especially in raids. I use many strategies to try and get the best results with my new buddy.
If you need to take down a boss quickly, it’s your guy.
But, you need to be prepared for it to faint a lot. It’s not going to be your tanky Pokémon that can survive a long battle. You’ll need a good supply of Potions and Revives if you’re going to use it regularly.
Ultimately, it comes down to your play style. If you like high-risk, high-reward Pokémon, then Shadow Alakazam is definitely worth considering. But if you prefer a more balanced approach, you might be better off sticking with a regular Alakazam or another strong Psychic-type.
