So, I decided to jump into some 4v4 matches in Rocket League today. I’ve been playing a lot of 2v2 and 3v3 lately, but I figured, why not go big?
First thing I did was queue up for a casual 4v4 match. I just wanted to get a feel for the chaos, you know? It’s been a while since I’ve played this mode.

The first game started, and man, it was nuts. Eight cars all scrambling for the ball. It felt like there was always someone in the way, always someone bumping you, always someone stealing your boost. I spent the first minute or two just trying to figure out where the heck I was supposed to be.
- Tried to play defense, but the ball kept whizzing past.
- Tried to go on offense, but got demoed like five times.
- Tried to just stay in the midfield and react, but ended up double-committing with teammates a bunch.
Getting a Little Better
After a few rough starts, I started to adjust. I realized that in 4v4, it’s less about individual skill and more about just being in the right place at the right time. I started focusing on:
- Rotating way more often. Seriously, like, every 10-15 seconds. No time to ball-chase.
- Staying spread out. If everyone’s bunched up, it’s just a mess.
- Expecting the unexpected. Weird bounces, random bumps, you name it.
- Quick aerials Help to get to the ball faster.
I even managed to score a couple of goals by just being patient and waiting for the ball to pop out in front of the net. It’s not pretty, but it works.
Final Thoughts
By the end of my session, I was actually having fun. 4v4 is definitely a different beast than the smaller modes. It’s wild, it’s unpredictable, and it’s a great way to just mess around and not take things too seriously. I still have a lot to learn, but at least now, I don’t feel like a total noob out there.
