Alright, so I wanted to keep better track of my loot in Dark and Darker. You know, figure out what’s actually worth picking up and what’s vendor trash. I’d heard whispers of a “price check” thing, so I decided to dive in and see what it was all about.
My Little Experiment Begins
First, I just started playing the game as usual, looting everything like a goblin possessed. Seriously, my inventory was a mess. Broken swords, rat tails, you name it, I had it.

Then, I started paying attention to the trade chat. People were constantly spamming “WTS” (Want to Sell) and “WTB” (Want to Buy) with various items and prices. I just kind of lurked and observed, trying to get a feel for what was popular and how much things were going for.
- I noticed that certain colors were always in demand.
- Stuff with good rolls on the stats seemed to be a big deal.
- Even some seemingly junk items were being traded for decent gold.
It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. There’s a lot of different numbers and items get thrown around!
My “System”
Then after playing and paying more attention to the global chat, I started taking notes, writing down.
After a few runs (and a few deaths, let’s be real), I started to get a basic idea. I wasn’t going to become a master merchant overnight, but I could at least tell the difference between a 10-gold item and something that might actually be worth 50 or even 100 gold.
My “price check” system is still pretty rough. It’s mostly based on gut feeling and what I’ve seen in trade chat, but it’s better than nothing! I’m still learning, and I’m sure there are more efficient ways to do this, but for now, this is working for me.
