Today, I wanted to dig into something that’s been bugging me for a while – how many calls should I really be making to land a sale? I’ve heard all sorts of numbers thrown around, but I wanted to see for myself what actually works.
So, I rolled up my sleeves and started making some calls. I grabbed my list of prospects, picked up the phone, and started dialing. I didn’t really have a set number in mind, I just wanted to get a feel for the process.

- The first few calls were a bit rough. I stumbled over my words, forgot to mention key points, and generally felt like a fish out of water.
- But, I kept at it. With each call, I got a little bit better. I started to find my rhythm, figured out what worked and what didn’t, and even started to enjoy the process.
- I made about 20 calls the first day. Not a ton, but enough to get my feet wet. I didn’t land any sales, but I did get a few people interested enough to schedule a follow-up call.
The Experiment Continues
The next day, I decided to up the ante. I set a goal of making 30 calls. I made sure I was prepared, had my notes in front of me, and was ready to go.
I found out that the words that I use are very important.
- I made the 30 calls, and I even managed to land a couple of sales! It was a great feeling, and it showed me that this whole “cold calling” thing might actually work.
- I continued this for a couple of weeks. I experimented with different numbers of calls, different times of day, and different approaches. Some days were better than others, but I was always learning.
After a while, I started to see a pattern. It seemed like it took around 8-12 calls to get a really good conversation going, and maybe 20-25 calls to land a sale. Of course, these are just rough numbers, and it varied from person to person.
But, the main takeaway for me was that it takes more than just a few calls to make a sale. It takes persistence, practice, and a willingness to learn from your mistakes.
It also says that different research has different numbers.
So, don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results right away. Just keep at it, keep learning, and keep dialing. You’ll get there eventually!
