Okay, here is my blog post about the best supports for Smolder, based on my own experience.
So, I’ve been grinding a ton of games with Smolder lately, this fiery little dragon ADC. He’s a ton of fun, but like any carry, he needs a good support to really shine. I’ve tried a bunch of different pairings, and I wanted to share my thoughts on which supports work best with him.

First, I jumped into a bunch of normal games. My goal was simple: try out as many different support champions with Smolder as possible. I started with some of the popular picks like Rakan, Sona, and Alistar. I figured these guys would be good because they all have some form of crowd control or healing, which is what I thought Smolder needs.
- Rakan was pretty fun. I could dash in, knock enemies up, and then Smolder could follow up with his damage. We definitely won a few fights because of that combo.
- Sona felt okay, but nothing special. Her heals were nice, but she’s so squishy that I felt like I had to play super carefully.
- Alistar was a bit clunky. It was hard to land his knock-up reliably, and when I did, it didn’t always feel like we got much value out of it.
After those games, I looked up some stats online to see what other people were having success with. I saw a few guides recommending “Warden” supports like Braum, Taric, and Tahm Kench. This made sense – they’re all tanky and can protect Smolder.
My Favorite: Braum
Out of all the supports I tried, Braum was by far my favorite. Here’s why:
- His Q, Winter’s Bite, applies his passive, Concussive Blows. This means that every time he hits an enemy with it, it adds a stack. And guess what? Smolder’s abilities also add stacks to Braum’s passive. So, we could stun enemies super fast, even in AoE situations because of the splash effect.
- He’s super tanky. He can just stand in front of Smolder and soak up damage, which is great because Smolder is pretty squishy early on.
- His ultimate, Glacial Fissure, is great for setting up kills or peeling enemies off Smolder.
After playing a bunch of games with Braum, I can confidently say he’s the best support for Smolder, at least in my experience. We crushed lane almost every time, and I felt like I could actually carry games as Smolder because I had a solid frontline to protect me.
I also experimented with some other supports like Janna and Nami, but they didn’t feel as good as Braum. They’re both pretty squishy, and while they have some good disengage tools, they don’t offer the same level of all-in potential that Braum does. I did play one game with a Leona, and that was pretty fun. We just went all-in all the time, and it worked out surprisingly well. But I think that was more because the enemy bot lane was bad than because Leona is a great support for Smolder.
So, yeah, that’s my take on the best supports for Smolder. If you’re looking to climb with this little dragon, I highly recommend giving Braum a try. You won’t be disappointed! I’ve played probably over 50 games at this point, swapping between supports, trying to figure out the best one, and Braum is just the clear winner for me.
