Okay, so I’ve been grinding away in Destiny 2, and I’ve got some thoughts on these Exotic Trace Rifles. Let me tell you, it’s been a journey!
I started out by trying to figure out what these Trace Rifles are all about. They’re pretty unique, right? They use special ammo and shoot out these continuous beams of energy. They felt a bit weird at first, honestly. Not like your usual hand cannons or auto rifles. But, I was determined to get the hang of them.

First, I went and looked at the Exotic options. There’s a few out there, like Coldheart and Prometheus Lens, which I could get my hands on without spending any real money. Sweet deal for a free-to-play guy like me!
- Coldheart: This one was my first. That icy beam looks cool, but it took some time to get used to its damage ramping up.
- Prometheus Lens: I found it pretty fun. The way it creates a heat field, that got me hooked immediately.
After playing around with them for a while, I thought I’d dive into the community to see what’s up. Found a bunch of tier lists, with people debating which ones are the best. Some folks were saying that these Trace Rifles aren’t all that powerful in PvE. I get it, the DPS isn’t always the best, but they’re not useless!
So, I started experimenting. I took them into strikes, nightfalls, you name it. I wanted to see if they could hold their own. And you know what? They do pretty well! Sure, they’re not melting bosses like some heavy weapons, but they’re good for clearing out groups of enemies. You just gotta keep that beam on target.
Then I heard about Wavesplitter. The sound is like it came straight out of an 80s movie. I had to check it out. It’s pretty decent in PvP, especially if you can keep the beam on your target. It became my go-to for a while in the Crucible.
I also tried out Ruinous Effigy. That thing is a blast! Turning enemies into void balls and slamming them around? Hilarious and effective. I found myself laughing out loud in some strikes with this thing.
My Conclusion
I’ve been having a lot of fun with these Exotic Trace Rifles. They’re different, they’re quirky, and they can be surprisingly effective. They might not always be the top choice for raw damage, but they bring something unique to the table. They’ve definitely earned a spot in my arsenal. If you haven’t given them a try, I highly recommend it. They might just surprise you!
