Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Altaria in battles lately, and let me tell you, this fluffy dragon bird thing is way cooler than it looks. I mean, it’s got this whole “cloud dragon” vibe, and who doesn’t love that? But getting the right moveset for it? That’s been a bit of a journey, so I figured I’d share what I’ve learned so far.
First off, I tried a few different things. I thought, “Hey, let’s make this thing a powerhouse!” So I slapped on some offensive moves, you know, trying to make it hit hard. I used Dragon Dance to boost up, and it’s supposed to make you faster and stronger. Then I used a strong Dragon Claw to deal some damage, along with Steel Wing for extra coverage. My strategy was to boost up, then hit hard. But honestly? It didn’t really work out that great. Altaria just isn’t built to sweep through teams like that. It felt kinda slow, and it got knocked out pretty easily, especially by Fairy and Ice attacks. It’s super weak to those, by the way.

My Altaria Setup
So, I went back to the drawing board. And then I realized something. This fluffy dragon is not meant to be a sweeper. It felt more like a…tank. It can take some hits! So, I changed up my strategy. I kept Dragon Dance, but this time, instead of all-out attacking, I focused on survival.
- Dragon Dance: Like I said, gotta get that speed and attack up.
- Roost: This is where it gets interesting. Roost lets Altaria heal itself, which is awesome for a tanky build.
- Dragon Claw: Still useful for dealing some damage after a few boosts.
- Steel Wing: Usefull attack and it can deal with its Fairy weakness.
I gave it Leftovers as a held item, so it gets a little bit of health back each turn. And for its ability, I went with Natural Cure. This thing is a lifesaver! It heals any status conditions when you switch Altaria out. So I use Dragon Dance to boost and attack with Dragon Claw when ready. If Altaria takes too much damage I will use Roost to heal. If Altaria is inflicted with a status ailment I will switch it out to remove it using Natural Cure. Pretty neat, right?
After that, I started seeing some success. It turns out Altaria is pretty good at taking hits and healing up. I was able to wear down opponents and actually win some battles! It’s not gonna blow your mind with crazy damage, but it’s surprisingly tough. Its maximum Combat Power stat is 2266 CP, just for your information.
I also tried using Rest with Natural Cure, since those two go together really well, but I felt like Roost worked better for me. It’s a bit more flexible, you know?
So, yeah, that’s my Altaria experience so far. It’s definitely not your typical dragon, but it’s got its own thing going on. If you’re looking for a bulky, defensive Pokmon that can still pack a punch after a few boosts, give it a try. Just don’t expect it to be a super-fast sweeper, because that’s just not its style. It’s more of a “slow and steady wins the race” kind of deal. And hey, sometimes that’s exactly what you need!
I’m still experimenting with it, so who knows, maybe I’ll find even better strategies later on. But for now, this tanky build is working pretty well for me. If you’ve got any tips or ideas, let me know! I’m always up for trying new things.
