Okay, so, a couple weeks ago I found out about this thing called “Watch The Throne.” It’s basically a big tournament for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I’m not a pro or anything, but I do enjoy the game and watching good players duke it out. I saw that this event was happening in San Jose, California, from December 8th to 10th, and it was an invitational thing, so I figured the competition would be fierce.
First I checked their website, and found that the prize pool was over 50 bucks, I mean, that’s not a lot, but it’s something. It got me more interested, for sure. I dug around a bit more and found out that this was a “Best of 5, Round Robin” type of deal. And, the placements were decided by set count, and then game count, so it’s pretty straightforward, but also intense.

I spent the next few days just reading up on who was going to be there. You know, just getting a feel for who the top contenders might be. I even watched some past matches of the players who were invited. Lots of hype, I gotta say.
When the tournament finally started, I was glued to my screen. I set up my laptop in the living room, grabbed some snacks, and just binged the whole thing. Man, the matches were insane! So many close calls and crazy comebacks. I even yelled at the screen a few times, which my wife was not too happy about, haha.
I followed every match that I could, kept track of the scores, and even made some predictions with my buddies online. It was a blast. The whole atmosphere, even though I was just watching from home, it felt electric. I took some screenshots of the best moments, and even shared my thoughts on a few forums.
- First, I checked the event details online.
- Then, I learned about the format and the prize pool.
- I researched the players and watched their previous matches.
- During the tournament, I watched all the matches live.
- Finally, I shared my excitement and thoughts with other fans.
In the end, I realized how much I love these kinds of events. It’s not just about the game, it’s about the community and the passion. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for more tournaments like this in the future. Maybe one day I’ll even try to go in person. That would be something, right?
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with the “Watch The Throne” tournament. Hope you enjoyed the ride along with me!
