Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this Rhyhorn in Pokemon Go, and let me tell you, figuring out the best moveset took some doing.
First off, I caught a bunch of these little guys. You know, just walking around, doing raids, the usual. I wanted to get one with decent stats, you know? High Attack and Defense seemed important since that’s what I saw online somewhere.

Then came the real work – figuring out which moves to teach it. This thing can learn a few different Charge Attacks: Bulldoze, Horn Attack, and Stomp. Honestly, I tried them all. I’d battle a bit, see how they felt, and swap them around.
- Bulldoze seemed okay, it’s a Ground-type move, and I learned Rhyhorn is a Ground/Rock type, so I figured it might get a little damage boost.
- Horn Attack, well, it’s a Normal-type move. Didn’t seem too special, to be honest.
- Stomp, also Normal-type, felt kind of the same as Horn Attack. Nothing to write home about.
But here’s the thing, I was doing some reading and saw that Rhyhorn is weak against a bunch of types like Grass, Ground, and Steel. So I thought, maybe I should focus on moves that can counter those.
Trying Something New
I stumbled upon some talk online about an “EdgeQuake” combo. Apparently, that’s Earthquake and Stone Edge. Since Rhyhorn is a Ground/Rock type, it gets what they call STAB, or Same Type Attack Bonus, from both of those. Sounded powerful!
So, I used a bunch of TMs to get Earthquake and Stone Edge on my Rhyhorn. Took a while, but I finally got it. And man, this combo is pretty sweet! It hits hard, especially against those types Rhyhorn is weak against.
I even saw something about Poison Jab being good to cover Grass-type Pokemon, which are also super effective against Rhyhorn. Might try that out later, but for now, I’m sticking with my Earthquake and Stone Edge combo. It’s been working out pretty well in battles so far!
It was quite a journey, testing out different moves and figuring out the strengths and weaknesses. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right? I feel like I finally cracked the code for the best Rhyhorn moveset, at least for my playstyle.
