So, I’ve been grinding away in Pokémon GO, and I wanted to share my experience with the recent Azelf raids. Azelf, one of the Lake Guardians Trio, popped up in the Americas on February 21-22, and I was eager to catch it.
First off, I noticed Azelf is the easiest of the trio to take down, but it packs a punch. I jumped into a few raids with some friends, and we used our best Dark types. Those Dark types really did the trick – they made the battles feel way shorter.

- Getting Ready: Before heading into the raids, I stocked up on Max Potions, Max Revives, and Golden Razz Berries. You never know when you’ll need to revive your Pokémon or boost your chances of catching the legendary after the battle.
- The Raids: I joined a few raids, and it was cool to see everyone’s different strategies. Since Mega Evolution is a thing now, some trainers had Mega-Evolved Dark and Ghost types, which gave them a nice boost. We managed to take down Azelf pretty quickly each time.
Now, onto the shiny hunt. I’ve heard that the shiny odds for these legendaries are about 1 in 20. So, every time you encounter Azelf, there’s a 1 in 20 shot it could be shiny. I wasn’t lucky enough to get a shiny Azelf this time, but I did get a couple with good stats.
Catching Azelf
Catching Azelf was a bit of a rollercoaster. Like any legendary, it’s not a guaranteed catch. I threw a bunch of Golden Razz Berries and tried to hit those Excellent throws, but it broke free a few times. I saw some other trainers struggling too, but eventually, most of us managed to catch it. I felt a huge sense of relief and excitement when I finally caught mine. Even though it wasn’t shiny, it was still a great addition to my collection.
I also learned that Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf are regional legendaries. This means they only appear in certain parts of the world. Since I’m in the Americas, I only had access to Azelf raids. But, I do have friends in other regions, and we’ve been helping each other out by sending raid invites. It’s a cool way to get all three Lake Guardians without having to travel.
Overall, it was a fun and rewarding experience. Raiding with friends, trying different strategies, and finally catching Azelf made it all worth it. I’m looking forward to more raid events like this in the future!
