Okay, so I’ve been hooked on this “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” game lately, and one thing that’s been bugging me is keeping track of my island layout. I started sketching it out on paper, but that got messy real fast. Then I stumbled upon this thing called the “Happy Island Designer” online.
First, I messed around with the tool. You can choose your starting layout, which is pretty neat. You got your town hall, the airport, the river mouths – all that jazz. I picked one that looked kinda like my actual in-game island. This tool lets you plop down houses, shops, even those little inclines and bridges.

Then I started planning for real. I wanted my residential area to be sort of tucked away, you know, nice and cozy. So I used the tool to mark out a space for that, using the little house icons. And my museum? I wanted that bad boy up on a cliff overlooking the ocean. So I used the cliff tool to make a little plateau and stuck the museum right up there.
- I marked out where I wanted to put down some flower beds using some dirt paths.
- Also tried to plan a zen garden with rivers and some trees.
- I even used the tool to figure out how many bridges and inclines I could actually afford, based on the layout I wanted.
I spent hours, seriously, just moving things around, trying different layouts. It is really a time sink, I gotta say. It’s kinda like playing with digital LEGOs. I could visualize how my island would look, without having to spend a ton of bells in the actual game, moving stuff around.
The Result
After all that, I finally got a layout I’m pretty happy with. I took a screenshot of the plan and now I’m using it as a roadmap for my in-game island. It’s still a work in progress, but having this visual guide makes things so much easier. I’m not just randomly placing things anymore. I’ve got a plan, man! It’s not perfect, of course, and I’m still making adjustments as I go. But it is a solid start! I also shared my map with my friends, and we have been comparing each other’s plans.
