Man, I’ve been grinding League of Legends lately, and let me tell you, Gwen has been a real pain in my side. I just couldn’t figure out how to deal with her in the top lane. So, I decided it was time to hit the books, or well, the internet, and do some research.
First thing I did was try to understand Gwen’s strengths. I noticed she’s really strong when she can stack up her Snip Snip! ability. It’s like, the more she uses it, the harder she hits. I also found out her W makes her super tanky, but only when she stays inside that little circle of hers.

Next, I started looking for champions that could potentially give Gwen a hard time. My thought process was, “Okay, I need someone who can either burst her down quickly before she stacks up, or someone who can poke her from a distance and avoid getting caught in her W.”
- I looked up some common counter-picks online and saw names like Warwick, Singed, Akali, Riven, and Kayle popping up.
- It made sense – Warwick and Singed have good sustain and can survive Gwen’s burst, while Akali and Riven can jump in and out and avoid her abilities.
- Kayle, on the other hand, can outscale her in the late game.
So, I hopped into a few games and tried out these counters. I played a couple of matches as Warwick, and man, it felt good. I could just run her down, and even if she tried to fight back, my sustain was too much for her. I also tried Riven, and while it was a bit trickier, I found that if I played it smart and dodged her Snip Snip! with my dashes, I could usually come out on top. I also had to remember to save my W on Sett until she used her dash, as Gwen can easily dodge it otherwise.
Experimenting with Different Strategies
Playing those counter-picks definitely helped, but I also wanted to see if I could change up my playstyle to better deal with Gwen. I started focusing on not letting her stack up her Snip Snip!. I’d bait her into using it, then back off until the stacks went away. It was like a little dance we were doing in the lane.
I also tried to use the champions like Warwick, Singed, Akali, Riven and Kayle to bait out her W. Once she used it, I knew I had a window to go in and trade with her. It was all about timing and patience.
After a bunch of games and a lot of trial and error, I finally started to feel like I was getting the hang of countering Gwen. It wasn’t just about picking the right champion, but also about understanding her abilities and playing around them. It took some time, but I went from getting destroyed by every Gwen I faced to actually winning lane against her. It’s a great feeling, man. Now, I’m not saying I’m some kind of Gwen-countering god, but I definitely feel a lot more confident when I see her locked in on the enemy team. I also learned which champions Gwen usually counters, like Illaoi, Yorick, Dr. Mundo, Sion, and Gangplank.
So yeah, that’s my story of how I learned to deal with Gwen in the top lane. It was a journey of research, experimentation, and a whole lot of practice. If you’re struggling against Gwen, I hope my experience can help you out. Just remember, patience, timing, and a little bit of champion knowledge can go a long way!
