Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this “Smokedancer” idea in Valorant, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I started out just thinking about how cool it would be to have another agent who can really control the map with smokes, you know? We’ve got Brimstone, of course, he’s the OG smoker you get right from the start, and Omen, with his, like, teleporting smoke bombs. But I wanted something different.
I spent a good chunk of time just reading up on how smokes work in the game. I mean, everyone knows you can throw down smokes to block vision, but there’s actually a lot of strategy involved. You can use them to fake out enemies, to make risky pushes, or even just to slow down a rush. It’s not just point and click, you have to use smokes wisely to achieve the goal.

My Idea for “Smokedancer”
So, I had this vision of an agent who could practically dance with their smokes. Here’s what I came up with:
- Signature Ability – Smoke Wall: Imagine a wall of smoke that you can curve and shape as you deploy it. Think like Viper’s wall, but way more flexible. You could use it to cut off entire areas, or even make, like, a winding path of cover.
- AoE Smoke: This one’s pretty standard. A big cloud of smoke you can drop anywhere on the map, kinda like Brimstone’s. But maybe with a slightly longer duration or a bigger radius, to make it unique.
- Intel Gathering: This is where it gets interesting. I was thinking, what if Smokedancer could also use their smokes to scout? Maybe a small, drone-like device that flies into a smoke cloud and pings enemies inside, just for a second. Just a quick flash, but enough to give you an idea of where they’re hiding.
- Ultimate – Smokescreen Symphony: This is the big one. Picture this: Smokedancer can create a massive area of dense smoke, like, way bigger than any other smoke ability in the game. Inside this smoke, enemies are partially blinded and their movement is slowed. It would be perfect for retaking a site or making a last-ditch push.
Then, I started thinking about how Smokedancer would actually play. I watched a ton of pro Valorant matches, paying attention to how they use smokes. I noticed that the best players are always repositioning after they get a kill. They don’t just camp in the same spot. So, I figured Smokedancer would be all about that too. They’d be like a phantom, using their smokes to create confusion and then flanking from unexpected angles. I practiced this a lot. Always change positions, move after shooting to avoid being easily found.
I even tried to create some mockups of what Smokedancer might look like. I imagined them with these flowy, ethereal clothes, maybe with some kind of smoke-generating device on their arms or back. I’m no artist, so they were pretty rough, but it helped me visualize the character.
One of the hardest parts was balancing the abilities. I didn’t want Smokedancer to be overpowered, but I also wanted them to feel impactful. It took a lot of tweaking and playtesting with some friends (we just used existing agents and pretended they had Smokedancer’s abilities). I am still testing the balance of their abilities.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’m pretty excited about this “Smokedancer” concept. I think it could really shake up the meta and add a new layer of strategy to the game. Who knows, maybe one day Riot will actually make an agent like this. A guy can dream, right?
