Okay, so Fortnite was giving me a real headache. I’d hop into a game, ready to snag that Victory Royale, and boom, lag city. It was like playing in slow motion, which, you know, doesn’t really work when you’re trying to dodge bullets and build forts at lightning speed.
First things first, I checked my internet speed. I mean, you gotta rule out the obvious, right? Turns out, my connection was fine. I even restarted my router for good measure, just to give it a fresh start. Didn’t help. Still laggy.

So, I figured it had to be something with my computer or the game itself. I remembered hearing that Fortnite can be pretty demanding on your system, especially if you’ve got all the fancy graphics turned up. I dove into the game’s settings and started tinkering. I lowered the resolution a bit, turned down some of the visual effects, like shadows and anti-aliasing, you know, all that stuff that makes the game look super pretty but can also eat up your computer’s resources.
While I was in there, I made sure the game was up to date. I clicked the update button. Sometimes those updates have fixes for performance issues. No update was needed, but I felt better to have checked.
- Checked internet speed – all good.
- Restarted router – no change.
- Lowered graphics settings in Fortnite.
- Turned down resolution.
- Disabled some visual effects.
- Checked for game updates – all up to date.
I also closed any unnecessary background application like Discord and Spotify. After all these, the game is still a bit laggy, but it was a lot better than before.
I am not sure if my computer is too old, maybe I need to upgrade my hardware. I think I will try that later.
