Alright, folks, let’s talk about my latest journey into the depths of Azeroth in the Season of Discovery. I’ve been messing around with a Shadow Priest, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride trying to figure out this whole DPS rotation thing.
So, first off, I jumped into the game, all excited to melt some faces with shadowy goodness. I read up a bit online – you know, the usual forums and guides – and got the gist of what I was supposed to be doing. Basically, it’s all about those DoTs, or Damage over Time spells.

Getting Started
I started by slapping on those DoTs. There are four of these bad boys:
- Shadow Word: Pain
- Void Plague
- Devouring Plague
- Vampiric Touch
I made sure I had these spells on my action bar and ready to go. It felt pretty straightforward at first, just keeping these spells ticking on the enemy.
The Realization
But then, I realized it wasn’t just about casting these spells randomly. There’s a rhythm to it. I started experimenting, trying to figure out the best order to cast them in. Sometimes I’d start with Shadow Word: Pain, other times with Vampiric Touch. I was all over the place, but hey, that’s how you learn, right?
Mind Games
Then there are those “Mind” spells. Mind Blast, Mind Flay – these are your filler spells when you’re not applying DoTs. I found myself weaving these in between my DoTs, trying to keep a steady stream of damage going. There was also a cool rune called “Pain and Suffering”. That was pretty great, no need to refresh my DoTs, that was so cool.
Cooldowns and Talents
Now, the guides talked about cooldowns and talents, and honestly, that’s where things got a bit fuzzy for me. There’s this thing called “Void Torrent” and “Shadowfiend,” and I think there was something about “Void Eruption” too? I tried using them whenever they were available, but I’m not sure if I was doing it right. And don’t even get me started on talents – I just picked what sounded cool and hoped for the best. But I do use Homunculi to provide the Sunder Armor and Demo Shout.
Insanity
Oh, and there’s this “Insanity” resource. Apparently, you build it up by casting those DoTs and Mind spells. I didn’t really pay too much attention to it at first, but I noticed that sometimes I’d have a lot of it, and other times I’d be running on empty. Still trying to figure out how to manage that properly.
Wrapping Up
So, yeah, that’s where I’m at with my Shadow Priest rotation. It’s a work in progress, for sure. I’m definitely doing more damage than when I first started, but I know there’s still a lot of room for improvement. I’ll keep practicing and maybe one day I’ll be a Shadow Priest master. Or maybe not, who knows? It’s all about having fun, right? And trust me, blasting enemies with shadow magic is definitely fun.
Anyway, that’s my experience so far. If any of you seasoned Shadow Priests out there have any tips or tricks, feel free to share. I’m all ears! Or, well, eyes, since we’re reading this. You know what I mean!
