Okay, so, the other day I was playing League of Legends, right? And out of nowhere, this thick red border popped up around my screen. I was like, “What the heck is this?” It was super distracting, I couldn’t even focus on farming minions or ganking. I accidentally pressed F9 keys when playing.
First thing I did was, tried pressing the same F9 key again. I figured it might be some kind of hotkey or something. I pressed that a couple of times, and guess what? The annoying red border disappeared! But, you know, it still bugged me. I didn’t want to keep pressing F9 every time this happened. I needed a permanent solution.

Check the settings
So, I dove into the game settings. I mean, there had to be something in there, right? I looked through all the options, video settings, hotkeys, everything. And there it was, an option called “Mouse Screen Lock”. It was bound to F9. Aha!
I decided to change that key to something I wouldn’t press accidentally, like, I don’t know, one of those number pad keys I never use. And I tested it out. I pressed the new key, the border came up, I pressed it again, it went away. But here’s the thing, I didn’t even want that feature at all!
Then I thought, maybe it’s not the game, maybe it’s my computer? So I went to my display settings, messed with the resolution, the refresh rate, all that stuff. Nothing.
My Solution
Finally, I just disabled the Mouse Screen Lock in the game settings. Problem solved! No more random red border interrupting my ranked games. I also adjusted the resolution in the game to match my monitor’s native resolution, just in case that was part of the problem.
It was such a relief to finally get rid of it. It was one of those small things that just drove me crazy. But, you know, sometimes it’s the little things in games that can be the most frustrating. Anyway, that’s my story of how I conquered the mysterious red border in League of Legends.
- Pressed F9 key
- Checked game hotkey settings, I found a option called Mouse Screen Lock, it was bound to F9.
- Checked computer display settings
- Changed the Mouse Screen Lock hotkey and disabled it.
