Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this Absol in Pokémon Go, right? I heard it’s a bit of a glass cannon, so I was curious to see if I could make it work. Gotta say, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, but hey, that’s what makes it fun.
First off, I started by catching a bunch of Absols. I mean, a whole lot. I was checking their stats, looking for those with high attack ’cause that’s what everyone says you need. Also, I learned that Absol is a pure Dark-type, so it gets a bonus when using Dark-type moves – that’s called STAB, or Same-Type Attack Bonus. I felt like a pro when I learned this new thing.

Then, I started experimenting with different movesets. Some folks online were saying Snarl and Dark Pulse are the way to go. And let me tell you, figuring out the best combo took some time. I was battling in gyms, trying out different moves, and yeah, I lost a bunch of times. Absol is super fragile, like, it can’t take a hit to save its life. It’s like Gengar in that sense, all offense and no defense.
I kept seeing these terms, DPS and TDO. Turns out, DPS is Damage Per Second, and TDO is Total Damage Output. There are even charts online that show you the best combos. I felt so smart looking into these charts. My Absol with Snarl and Dark Pulse was hitting around 13.35 DPS, which seemed pretty good, but its TDO was only 131.8, meaning it faints pretty quickly.
- Catching Spree: Caught a ton of Absols.
- Stat Check: Focused on high attack stats.
- Move Experiments: Tried various move combinations.
- Gym Battles: Tested Absol in action, learned about its fragility.
- DPS/TDO Research: Learned about these stats and how they impact battles.
I also had to figure out what Pokémon are good against Absol, you know, its weaknesses. Turns out, it’s weak to Bug and Fairy. And there are some other Pokémon, like Mega Lucario and Mega Heracross, that just wreck Absol. I found this out the hard way, trust me. Lost a few raids ’cause I didn’t know this before.
After all that, I realized Absol is like a high-risk, high-reward kind of Pokémon. It can dish out some serious damage, but you gotta be quick. It’s not something you can just throw into a battle and expect to win. You gotta plan and be strategic. It has one of the highest attack stats, I read it’s like 17th, just below this Tyranitar one. But man, it’s so weak to damage!
It’s pretty good against Psychic, Ghost, and other Dark-types, so that’s a plus. I even managed to take down a few gyms using it, which felt awesome. Especially when I used it against those Ghost-type Pokémon, it was pretty satisfying.
My Conclusion
So, yeah, that’s been my journey with Absol in Pokémon Go. It’s not for everyone, but if you like a challenge and you’re into that high-damage, fragile type of Pokémon, you might enjoy it. I definitely had to change my play style. It’s not the “best” Pokémon out there, but it’s definitely not useless. It’s a fun one to use if you know what you’re doing. Just be ready to dodge a lot and maybe have a few Revives handy. Oh, and don’t get too attached, ’cause it might faint a lot. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
