Okay, so, I wanted to get into this whole “Alchemy” thing in Magic: The Gathering. It’s like the digital-only format, right? I heard it’s pretty wild with all the new cards and mechanics, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I started by checking out what decks people are hyping up.
First off, I saw a lot of buzz around this “Mono-White Humans” deck. I thought, that’s gotta be a basic one. I built it and man, it was a blast. Flooding the board with these little human dudes and buffing them up felt pretty good. I spent a couple of days just smashing face with it and I won a bunch of games. It’s a solid choice if you like to keep it simple and aggressive.

Then, there was this other deck, “Golgari Roots.” I learned this one is more about the graveyard stuff, which I’m not super familiar with. After I got some tips, I learned how to use the graveyard and it went smoothly. I built it after the recent “Murders at Karlov Manor” set came out. It’s a bit trickier because you have to think a few steps ahead, making sure you get the right cards in your graveyard and then bring them back. Took me a while to get the hang of it, but once I did, it was pretty satisfying to pull off some big brain plays.
I also tried to keep up with the “metagame,” which is basically like the trends of what decks are popular and strong at any given time. I found some info for January 2025, and it listed some other decks like “Esper Rusko,” “B/W Dollmaker,” and “G/B Roots Combo” as top dogs. I haven’t built these yet, but I did face them a few times. They seem really strong, but also really complicated, especially that Rusko one. It has a lot of moving parts that I’m still trying to figure out.
I spent a few hours looking into these decks, watching videos and reading some guides. It’s a lot to take in. But the more I played, the more I realized how important it is to adapt to what your opponent is doing. Some decks are super fast, others are slow and grindy. You gotta know what you’re up against and change your strategy accordingly.
So, that’s where I’m at. I’ve got a couple of decent decks under my belt, and I’m starting to understand the meta a bit better. It’s a lot of trial and error, but that’s what makes it fun, right? I’m still a noob, but I’m learning. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll be the one making those top deck lists.
