Okay, so I’ve been getting into Overwatch lately, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. There’s just so many heroes, it’s nuts! Each one’s got their own thing going on, their own skills and their way of playing. At first, I got overwhelmed, so I started taking notes on how to handle each hero.
I jumped into a bunch of games, quick play mostly, just to get a feel for each character. Tried out all the heroes, even the ones that looked kinda weird. The more I played, the more I started to figure out who counters who.

For example, I started with Bastion, cause he seems like a popular pick for beginners. That big robot can deal a lot of damage, but he’s also really slow and easy to pick off if you’re not careful.
- When I played as Bastion, I noticed that heroes like Genji or Tracer could easily get behind me and take me out. So, I wrote down that those two are good counters for Bastion.
Then I moved on to Lucio, cause I always thought the music was fun. He’s a support hero, which means he’s all about keeping the team alive. But he’s also pretty mobile and can be a real pain to pin down.
- I found that heroes like Sombra, who can hack his abilities, or Soldier: 76, who can just shoot him from a distance, were good counters for Lucio. Wrote that down too.
I kept this up for a while, trying out each hero, playing against different team comps, and seeing what worked and what didn’t. I also went into custom games to check out the maps and find good spots for each hero. I learned the maps, the shortcuts, where the health packs are, good flanking spots and all that stuff.
My Notes
My notes started getting pretty detailed. I wrote down each hero’s strengths and weaknesses, who they’re good against, and who they struggle with. It was a lot of info, but it really helped me understand the game better.
After a lot of games, I started to see patterns. Certain heroes were almost always countered by the same other heroes. It wasn’t always a hard counter, sometimes it was more of a skill matchup. But it gave me a good idea of what to expect in each game.
Of course, this is just my experience. Everyone plays differently, and what works for me might not work for you. But I figured I’d share my notes anyway, in case anyone else is struggling to figure out the counters in Overwatch.
It’s a tough game, no doubt. But it’s also a lot of fun once you start to get the hang of it. So keep playing, keep learning, and keep those notes handy!
