Alright, so I’ve been grinding away on Pokemon Go, as usual, and I got really into this Poliwrath thing. Let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey.
I started off just catching these little Poliwags, evolving them up, you know the drill. Finally got myself a Poliwrath and figured, “Hey, let’s see what this guy can do in the Great League.” I mean, I heard it was pretty bulky and that Water/Fighting type seemed kinda cool.

Trying Out Different Moves
First, I had some random moves on it. Can’t even remember what they were, to be honest. I threw Poliwrath into a few battles, and it was doing okay, but nothing special. So, I started digging around, reading up on what other people were using.
Turns out, the big thing for Poliwrath is this move called Counter.
- Now, I didn’t have Counter at first. Apparently, it’s one of those “legacy” moves, which basically means you can’t get it easily. I read somewhere that there was this December 2024 Community Day thing where you could get Poliwrath with Counter. Missed that boat big time.
- But I was determined. I ended up using one of those Elite TM things to get Counter. Felt a little bad using it, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do, right?
- Then there’s this other Charged Move, Dynamic Punch, that everyone says is amazing. It does a ton of damage. I slapped that on my Poliwrath too.
The Results
Once I got Counter and Dynamic Punch on my Poliwrath, let me tell you, it was like a whole new Pokemon. This thing was hitting like a truck! I was winning way more battles in the Great League. It was actually kinda surprising how much of a difference those two moves made.
I did try a few other moves, just to experiment. Like, Bubble is a decent fast move for water type. Also, I learned that those moves are boosted by Cloudy weather. Nothing crazy, but it was fun to mess around with.
Rock Smash is another option but it is significantly worse, so I gave up using it very soon.
So yeah, that’s my Poliwrath story. It’s been a fun little project, and now I’ve got a real powerhouse on my team. If you’re into Pokemon Go, definitely give Poliwrath with Counter and Dynamic Punch a try. It’s worth the effort!
