I’ve been grinding away in Rocket League lately, trying to rank up, you know? And man, car choice feels like it makes a difference. I started digging into it, and boy, did I learn a lot.
So, first off, I jumped into some casual matches. Just to get a feel for different cars, I hopped in Free Play. I wanted to see how they handled, how they felt in the air, on the ground, you know, the basics. I did this for a while, just messing around.

Then I started experimenting. I picked the Octane first. It is the one everyone talks about. Turns out, it’s a classic for a reason. I played a few games, tried some aerials, practiced my dribbling. It felt good, I gotta say. It felt balanced and did some amazing play, which made my teammates amazed. And I saw lots of folks using it in my ranked matches too. Made sense, given how popular it is.
I learned that the Octane was released in July 2015 and is the only original model in the game. It seems to be the most commonly used car in true competitive Rocket League. And it is not difficult to find out why. All kinds of players use it because of its wide hit box and extreme versatility. Most of players use it even though they might have other choices. I’m no different. After I tried several other cars, I still think Octane is the best one. So, I stick to it.
After playing tons of games, I realized the Octane really is a solid choice. I noticed I was hitting the ball more consistently, my aerials felt smoother, and I could maneuver around the field pretty easily. It just clicked, you know? I could pull off some crazy shots and saves that I couldn’t quite manage with other cars. Finally, I decided to mainly use it.
So, what did I learn from all this? Car choice in Rocket League matters, at least for me. And the Octane? It’s popular for a reason. But hey, that’s just my experience. You gotta find what works for you.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment!
- Play around in Free Play to get a feel for different cars.
- Pay attention to what the pros use, but don’t blindly copy them.
- Most importantly, have fun!
