Hey everyone, so today I wanted to talk about my experience messing around with the graphics settings in Dying Light 2. It’s a pretty good-looking game, but I was curious about the different modes and how they’d affect the gameplay and visuals.
First off, I started by just jumping into the game with whatever the default settings were. I think it was on the “Resolution” mode, because I was getting close to 4K, or at least that’s what they claim. It was pretty smooth most of the time, but I did notice some frame drops here and there, especially when things got hectic with a bunch of zombies or in detailed city areas.
Then I decided to try out the “Quality” mode. I read somewhere that this mode is supposed to give you way better visuals with ray tracing and all that fancy stuff, but it’s capped at 30fps and 1080p on PS5. Honestly, it did look quite a bit nicer, especially the lighting and shadows. But man, that 30fps felt really sluggish after playing at a higher frame rate. I guess I’m just too used to smoother gameplay now, especially in a fast-paced game like this.

Next up, I switched to “Performance” mode. This one drops the resolution down to 1080p, the same as Dying Light 1, but it aims for a higher frame rate. And yeah, it definitely felt a lot smoother. The gameplay felt more responsive, which is super important when you’re parkouring around and fighting off hordes of the undead.
I played around with some other settings too, like trying to enable ray tracing on my PC. It definitely made the shadows and lighting look more realistic, especially the way light reflects off different surfaces. But it did tank my performance, so I had to tweak a bunch of other stuff to get it running smoothly again.
I also checked out the minimum requirements, my old GTX 1050 Ti was mentioned, even the AMD Radeon RX 560 with 4GB VRAM. CPU wise, an Intel Core i3-9100 or AMD Ryzen 3 2300X was listed. And you’ll need at least 8GB of RAM and 60GB of storage.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, I think I’m gonna stick with “Performance” mode for now. Sure, the graphics aren’t as impressive as “Quality” mode, but the smoother gameplay makes a huge difference for me. It just feels better to play. But hey, that’s just my preference. If you’ve got a beefier setup or you don’t mind the lower frame rate, “Quality” mode might be your jam. It’s all about finding what works best for you and your setup. So, experiment with the settings and see what you prefer!
