Okay, so I’ve been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for a while now, and I’ve got to tell you, getting the villagers you want can be a real pain. Today, I want to talk about my experience trying to get Chow, this cranky bear villager. He’s got this whole tough-guy thing going on, but I heard he’s actually pretty cool once you get to know him.
First, I did some reading up on Chow. Turns out, his birthday is July 22nd. The guides say he’s into his hobbies and likes to challenge you to competitions. Sounds fun, right? And apparently, he gets along with jock, snooty, and other cranky villagers, which is good to know.

Now, there are a few ways to get villagers in this game. One way is to go on these Mystery Island Tours. You use Nook Miles Tickets, fly to a random island, and there’s a chance a villager will be there. I tried this a bunch of times, flying to island after island. It’s a bit of a grind, and honestly, I didn’t have much luck. No Chow in sight.
Another method is the campsite. You build it, and eventually, villagers will start visiting. I was pretty excited when a villager showed up. I talked to them, and they asked to play a card game. But guess what? It wasn’t Chow. And from what I read, the campsite visitor thing is a total gamble anyway.
- Mystery Island Tours:
- Campsite:
I spent so many Nook Miles Tickets flying to different islands. It felt like I was just throwing my miles away.
I built the campsite, waited, and a villager finally appeared. But it was a total letdown since it wasn’t Chow.
Then there’s the whole amiibo card thing. I found out that to invite a villager via their amiibo card, you gotta have the campsite built and have your first visitor moved in already. Then, you can use the Nook Stop terminal to invite the amiibo villager. You have to invite them for three days before they actually agree to move in. It’s a whole process, but if you have an amiibo card of Chow, it’s pretty much a sure way to get him. After three times’ invitation, he accepted my request.
So, there you have it. Getting Chow, or any specific villager, in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can take some time and effort. It really depends on luck, unless you have their amiibo card. I finally got Chow moved in, but it was a process for sure. I’m starting to think the easiest way might just be trading with other players, but that’s a whole other story.
Anyway, now that I have him, I’m excited to see what he’s really like. Maybe we’ll become best buds. Who knows? That’s the fun of Animal Crossing, right?
Tips
- Use Mystery Island Tours to find villagers, but it’s random.
- Build a campsite to attract visitors, but it’s also random.
- Use amiibo cards to invite specific villagers, the most reliable method.
- Trade with other players if you’re looking for someone specific.
