Alright, guys, let’s talk about Houndoom. I’ve been messing around with this Pokemon for a while now, trying to figure out the best way to use it. It’s a Dark/Fire type, which is pretty cool, and it’s got some decent stats, but it’s kinda like a glass cannon – hits hard but can’t take much in return.
So, the big question is, what’s the best nature for Houndoom? At first I thought, maybe something to boost its Attack stat, since it’s got some cool moves like Sucker Punch. And its basic attack is 90! Not bad, but I went against that and put all in for Special Attack. I ran some battles, and honestly, it wasn’t bad, but I felt like I was missing out on its real potential.

Then, I started looking at its Special Attack, which is way higher. That’s when I began thinking about Timid or Modest. These two natures are the usual suspects for special attackers. I’ve heard people say that Modest is great because it gives a nice boost to Special Attack, making Houndoom hit like a truck. But then you have some folks swearing by Timid, saying that the extra Speed is crucial, especially for Mega Houndoom.
I spent some time experimenting with both. With Modest, it was definitely noticeable how much harder Houndoom hit. I mean, some Pokemon just melted when they got hit by its special attacks. But… I found myself getting outsped a lot. And with Houndoom being so frail, getting hit first usually meant game over. So I used Timid instead.
- Timid, on the other hand, was a whole different story.
Suddenly, I was outspeeding a lot more Pokemon. It was awesome! I could get those crucial hits in before my opponent could even react. Sure, I wasn’t hitting quite as hard, but the extra speed made a huge difference in survivability. It is also a good nature if you want to evolve your buddy into Mega Houndoom.
Here is the stats for Houndoom:
- HP:75
- Attack:90
- Defense:50
- Sp. Atk:110
- Sp. Def:80
- Speed:95
- Total:500
I also played around with its abilities. Flash Fire is probably the best one. Getting hit by a Fire-type move and then getting a boost to your own Fire attacks? Yes, please! It’s saved me a few times, I gotta say.
My Choice
After all that testing, I’ve come to the conclusion that Timid is the way to go for my Houndoom. The extra speed just gives it that edge it needs to compete. Of course, your mileage may vary. Some people might prefer the raw power of Modest, and that’s totally fine. At the end of the day it’s all about finding the strategy that works best for you, and this is what worked for me. But for me, I’m sticking with Timid.
Oh, and one more thing – if you’re using Houndoom, make sure you have a way to deal with Stealth Rock. That stuff is a nightmare for it. A Pokemon with Rapid Spin or Defog can be a real lifesaver.
Alright, that’s my two cents on Houndoom. Hope you found this helpful! Let me know what you guys think and what natures you’re running. Catch you later!
