So, I’ve been seeing this question pop up everywhere: “Is The Quarry a sequel to Until Dawn?” I figured I’d share my thoughts and what I found out, ’cause, you know, I played both games and all.
First off, I jumped into this whole thing expecting maybe some connections, some easter eggs, or something, right? I started digging around online, reading forums, articles, and whatnot. I even replayed parts of Until Dawn, just to see if I missed anything the first time around. I spent hours scouring every detail and clue in the game.

Here’s the Deal
- Not a Sequel: I can say right now, The Quarry is definitely not a direct sequel to Until Dawn. No shared characters, no continuation of the story, nada.
- Same Horror Vibes: But, and this is a big but, they feel very similar. Both games are like those cheesy, fun horror movies we all love. You know, jump scares, creepy settings, and decisions that make you go “Oh crap.” I really tried hard to analyze them.
- Different Stories, Different Worlds: From what I gathered, they’re not even in the same universe. It’s like comparing apples and oranges. Sure, they’re both fruit, but they’re totally different fruits.
- Spiritual Successor Thing: A lot of people are calling The Quarry a “spiritual successor” to Until Dawn. I guess that means it’s similar in spirit, but not actually related. I’m not really sure what the concept of “spiritual successor” means, but that’s what everyone is saying.
I even went down this rabbit hole of trying to save every character in The Quarry, especially this guy Matt. Everyone online was saying he’s super hard to keep alive. Let me tell you, it’s true! I messed up so many times. I remember reading that in Chapter Five, you gotta disagree with Emily about going to the fire tower to save Matt. This was a very important clue.
Anyway, after all this digging and playing, I’ve come to the conclusion that these games are like cousins, not siblings. They share some DNA (being made by Supermassive Games), but they’re their own separate things. I noticed that Supermassive Games also launched The Quarry in 2022. It looks like it’s been getting a lot of attention recently.
So, if you liked Until Dawn, you’ll probably dig The Quarry. Just don’t go in expecting the same story or characters. Trust me, I learned that the hard way!
