Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another one of my little gaming experiments. Today’s subject is something I’ve been messing around with in Pokémon GO – and that’s our spiky friend, Cacturne. Now, I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter around the best way to use this guy, so I dove in headfirst to figure it out for myself.
So, first off, I started catching a bunch of these cacti. They pop up more at night, being all Grass and Dark type, which I thought was pretty neat. Getting my hands on one with decent stats was the first step. After comparing a few, I settled on one that seemed pretty robust – its max CP was hitting around that 2598 mark, which is what I was looking for.

Leveling Up and Stats
Next, I powered up my Cacturne, bit by bit. Each level up, I kept an eye on that CP. Getting it to Level 50 was a grind, but seeing those numbers go up was satisfying. I also paid attention to its IVs, making sure they were as close to 15 as possible. It’s a bit of a guessing game, but it felt like those perfect IV’s made all the difference in battle.
- Caught multiple Cacturne to compare stats.
- Focused on getting one with a high max CP.
- Powered up Cacturne to Level 50.
- Observed IVs for each Cacturne.
Moveset Experiments
Then came the fun part – figuring out the best moves. I tried a bunch of combinations. Some folks online were swearing by Sucker Punch and Grass Knot, saying it gives the best DPS (that’s Damage Per Second, for the uninitiated). So, I gave that a shot. Honestly, it felt pretty powerful. The damage output was solid, and it seemed like a good all-around choice.
But I didn’t stop there. I swapped out Grass Knot for Dark Pulse a few times, just to see what would happen. It was interesting – Dark Pulse seemed to give Cacturne a bit more oomph against certain types. And then there was Dynamic Punch, which was kind of a wild card. It didn’t always hit as hard, but when it did, it was pretty epic, especially against those Steel and Ice types.
- Tested Sucker Punch and Grass Knot combo.
- Experimented with Dark Pulse for type advantage.
- Used Dynamic Punch as a surprise move.
Battling It Out
With all these moves tested, I took Cacturne into some Gym battles and a few Raids. Let me tell you, seeing it in action was something else. It’s a bit of a glass cannon, to be honest – hits hard but can’t take too many punches. But when it landed those Sucker Punches, it was game over for a lot of opponents. And in those weather-boosted Raids? Cacturne was a beast, dealing out damage like there’s no tomorrow.
I also tried it out in some PvP battles. Now, this was a whole different ball game. Timing was everything. Using the right move at the right time could turn the tide of the battle. Cacturne’s not the tankiest, but with the right strategy, it could hold its own.
So, what’s the takeaway from all this? Cacturne in Pokémon GO is a bit of a mixed bag. It’s got some serious strengths, especially in the right matchups. But it’s not the easiest Pokémon to use. It takes some practice, some trial and error, and a bit of luck. But when it all comes together, it’s incredibly rewarding.
That’s it for my Cacturne adventure, folks. Hope you found this little experiment of mine helpful. Remember, this is just my experience, and your mileage may vary. Keep experimenting, keep battling, and most importantly, have fun! Catch you all in the next one!
