Okay, so I’ve been hitting up some Virizion raids in Pokémon Go recently, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. I mean, this Grass/Fighting-type Legendary is pretty cool, but taking it down isn’t always a walk in the park.
First off, I tried to duo it with a buddy of mine. We both had some decent Flying-types, like a couple of strong Moltres and a Rayquaza, but they were only around level 30. We also threw in a few high-level Mewtwos for good measure. We figured since we were best friends in the game, we’d get that sweet friendship damage boost and maybe just scrape by. We jumped into the raid, started to fight with Virizion, and… yeah, it was tough. We got close, really close, but we just couldn’t finish it off in time. The timer ran out, and we were both a little bummed. We both use potions and revives to recover our lost Pokemons.

So, duoing Virizion? It’s doable, but you really need to have some maxed-out Flying-types or a bunch of those powered-up Mewtwos. I realized our Pokemon weren’t quite up to snuff. Lesson learned there.
Next, I decided to try raiding with a larger group. I went to a bunch of places where people were raiding and joined in a few 5-star Virizion raids. I saw there were usually at least 4 of us, sometimes more. We all had a mix of Flying, Psychic, Fire, Fairy, Ice, and Poison-types. I remember someone had a Honchkrow, another had a Yveltal, and one person even brought a Ho-Oh! With that many people, it was way easier. We took down Virizion no problem. I even managed to catch one after the raid, which was awesome! It wasn’t shiny, unfortunately, but it had decent IVs, so I was still happy.
But here’s the thing I’ve noticed: Virizion is way more manageable with a bigger group, but you never know how prepared people are going to be. I joined one raid where it seemed like a few people were using random Pokemon. We still won, but it took a little longer than usual.
From what I’ve experienced, and from what I’ve seen other people say, you really want at least 4 trainers to comfortably take down Virizion. And if you’re using lower-level counters, like maybe level 20 or so, you’ll probably need even more people.
My Takeaways
- Duoing Virizion is tough: You need some seriously strong Pokemon, preferably high-level Flying-types or Mewtwos.
- Bigger groups are better: 4 or more trainers make the raid much easier.
- Flying-types are your friends: Moltres, Rayquaza, Honchkrow, Yveltal, they all do great against Virizion.
- Don’t be afraid to use other types: Psychic, Fire, Fairy, Ice, and Poison can also work well.
- Catching Virizion: It’s not guaranteed, but be ready with those Golden Razz Berries and try to hit those excellent throws!
So yeah, that’s my experience with Virizion raids so far. It’s been fun, a little frustrating at times, but overall, a good challenge. I’m still trying to get a shiny Virizion, so I’ll definitely be doing more raids in the future. Hopefully, this helps some of you out there who are also trying to take down this Legendary Pokemon. Good luck, and happy raiding!
